This is a jazzer's book! This book has fewer titles and a higher price than the other Christmas fake books. I believe this is because the others probably include the traditional simple changes (or chords) associated with the carols. Since the carols make up a sizeable portion of any Christmas songbook, and since they are public domain, this makes the price of these other books cheaper. Each carol in this edition is arranged and is therefore not a publisher's freebie.The Real Christmas Book has a simple jazz reharmonization for all of the traditional carols, and in my opinion, this makes it well worth the money. Understand that the Real Book series is a jazz musician's series and if you're not looking to play jazz the other Christmas fake books such as Carol Cueller's The Christmas Fake Book or the Ultimate Christmas Fake Book will probably be easier to play from and provide a better per-song value.
A good variety of Christmas songs, but like the original Real Book it is sloppy. A lot of the chord substitutions are boring or bad. Key signatures are only on the first staff. But you will find some tunes you won't see anywhere else. It's good to have in the arsenal, but there are better books such as the Christmas Fake Book.
I was happy to see a Christmas Real Book with contemporary christmas songs but I'm sorely disapointed at the Kindle version. They didn't bother to format it for Kindle. So I basically have a book with tons of half even quarter pages. A song that should be one page long is 4 half pages long. That's especially inconvenient if your actually using this book to read music as your playing because you have to turn it every 4 staves. Very upset and I'm going to see if I can get my money back for it. If you're a musician reading this book to perform, even just practice, Don't Buy It for Kindle! Just wait for a physical copy to come in the mail.
Unless there is a better way to paginate the Kindle edition - do not bother.I purchased the Kindle edition to put it on my iPad.Very few songs can be read on one page.Only three or four staves appear in one panel.I have tried changing the font, putting the viewer on two pages, and no option to date has been acceptable.If you want the book, get a hard copy.
this is a fun book that allowed me to quickly play some christmas tunes without having to sit down and figure out the harmonies. it's got all the traditional tunes and a ton of great cheesy stupid pop christmas tunes. fun stuff.
The Kindle version is defective. The pages are all split up into weird blocks. I have other Kindle Real books that are fine but this is not. DO NOT BUY KINDLE VERSION!!!!
My daughter is an intermediate trumpet player and I bought her the Real b flat book and she loved it so much I bought her this Christmas book. These books keep her playing for hours and she told me they are her favoriates. I noticed her playing has improved dramatically and I know it's becasue she is enjoying playing the songs in these books.
Love the book!!!It was delivered without delay and I've had nothing but enjoyment playing the Christmas classics I love the most.This book in my opinion is a classic and a must have for any piano player of any age or experience level who enjoys The sounds if Christmas.I've been playing since I'm 21; I'm now 52 and will continue for years to practice using this book!Thanks .
