The photo shows the cover of the book labeled with "CD Inside". In fact, in the version I received, there was not only a CD, but also a DVD inside, with demos corresponding to the lessons illustrating the fingerings technique to use. After about 30 minutes of following the practice DVD, without even reading the book to any extent, I was able to play along with the first few simple songs, as each note and fingering was displayed on the screen. I can read music, so perhaps that helped. I just needed to learn the mechanical movements associated with each note on the recorder. The DVD includes an accompaniment band that provides a nice background for your playing. Terrific fun.
My boys are loving this as a part of our homeschool this year (K & 2nd). I am very pleased with the value: lesson book, cd, and DVD all for one very reasonable price! They love following along to the DVD to practice after I introduce the lesson via the book. I think the DVD will really help them to learn to read music too, it's great!
We love these books. We've been using them for flute sight reading. But it's obvious from look at it, that this is a fabulous recorder method books and it even has CDs. I totally recommend this to anyone wishing to learn recorder. I've seen quite a few recorder books in my life, and this is by far the best!
The DVD is great to follow. My daughter does her lessons and even I have picked up the recorder and ventured, after lesson 15 or so it gets more difficult than it looks. Great book, CD and DVD for practice. Good buy for the price. Once you have it, you'd just need your child to PRACTICE! :)
