This series of method books have been around a long time (I grew up in them in the 80s). This particular book has many more duets, and pieces to work from and less technical exercises. If you are a more advanced (i.e.strong high school player), you might enjoy using this book as a resource for challenging sight-reading and exercises.

Advanced Method Vol III already own Vol I of this book; it's excellent. Vol II is for very advanced students; the book I received through was in new condition. Much of the book offers exercises that are moderately difficult and offer opportunities for the advanced player to improve, especially in key signatures that are not frequently encountered. However, a significant portion of the book is written in keys that are unlikely to be encountered in the military band repertoire; for example D flat major, B sharp major, etc. I'd recommend against purchase of this book for non music majors and/or non symphonic players.

My band director bought this for me and it is truly an amazing book. Scale, melodic, articulation, fingering and ornament exercises with great solo pieces in the end. Also a good source for duets. I used the intermediate book for sight-reading with this book for daily exercise.

A great follow up on Vol I. The organization is GENIUS! You don't go from 1st page to last. Each lesson starts at the beginning of the book and goes toward the end of the book, primarily organized by key signature. The first section of the book is composed of scales going from Eflat to D flat and B (ouch)For the first time ever, I can say that I am comfortable with 5 flats or sharps....anyway the next section has duets that correspond to the key from the scales, then a section on artiulation, then one on finger exercises, then one on ornamentation, and finally one on solos---all "keyed" to the key you are studying in the first section. I am an older non professional player. I liked this book so much that when we (teacher and I) finished it, I asked to go over it again. Don't let the title put you off---It is advanced, but If you start with Vol I, ANY intermediate player can do this! There are numerous exercises for the "turn", so many, that I don't even think about it anymore, I just do it.I wish there were more altissimo exercises though. I don't think you have to go above high E for any other the scales or melodic pieces. In the finger exercises you do encounter high F. F sharp and G, but working them into more performance type pieces would be nice. If you want that though, try Rose 32 etudes---it gently guides you to high G. I no longer think, "you're kidding when I see those notes".

Good individual exercises, but also a good source of clarinet duets. A really advanced clarinetist might need something more challenging but would still probably find this book useful.

Well written, easy to read and understand with excellent exercises. I HEARTILY RECOMMEND THIS METHOD! I prefer the Rubank over the big, heavy and comprehensive methods.
