Almost everything Chesterton has written is pretty amazing. These two books are no exception. He has the ability to think and write clearly and coherently, and at the same time come at the story from a fresh and sometimes surprising point of view. Much recommended introductions to St. Francis and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Getting both books for .99 is a great bargain. Both are enjoyable and enlightening, but St. Francis of Assisi is much easier to read than St. Thomas Aquinas where Chesterton goes into the philosophy of St. Thomas which requires explanations and references to people and events that the reader may not at all be acquainted with. I suggest that St. Thomas Aquinas be read at least twice to better follow and appreciate Chesterton's detailed and close-knit reasoning. And have Google handy to look up the references to various philosophers.
The best book on St. Francis ever and one of the best examples of historical bibliography. The book on Francis is like a tour of the life of the saint with an insightful genius as your guide.Chesterton points out things that are obviously true but that you didn't see until he pointed them out.His writing makes you feel like you are watching St. Francis' life from above as it happens.Highly recommended.
Chesterton gives in-depth analysis of these two great men with his classic surprising insight.
Excellent review of lives and spirituality of both saints.
FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH G.K. CHESTERTON...WHAT A DELIGHT..........HE IS SO WELL INFORMED , THAT WE HAVE NO PROBLEM BELIEVING WHAT HE WRITES....VERY INSPIRED BY GOD, THE HOLY SPIRIT........
Great summary of 2 amazing men of God! A little wordy at parts but overall excellent book for those who know little of these Saints.
Excellent! Chesterton at his best. Profound understanding of two great men in dealing with challenges coming from life.
