I must qualify why I gave Suen's book on Music Theory and the reason is that my purchase was done in the fond expectation that as a beginner I would understand and appreciate its contents. At this stage in my progress that is in the distant future. I have quickly gone through the book and found that it is aimed at the more accomplished ukulele practitioner. I intend to keep the book and take advantage of its contents once I can appreciate it. I believe an accomplished player would rate this book far higher, possibly a 5.
This explanation makes music easy in any key. Transposing simple. Excellent for anyone who wants to play impromptu music. I play the ukulele in nursing homes. This has become a very important piece of equipment.
This is definitely a companion to more in depth music theory. Don't expect to learn much theory. This book is more about the order of which you should play notes but not the why.
I have done a quick read of this short book. It seems clear enough but I must go back and reread it. I have never been able to wrap my brain around this concept but hopefully that will change. I liked Rosas circle of 5ths wheel idea.
This is a good book, I guess. I think the problem is more with me. It's difficult for me to understand the whole chord-shift idea. I'll have to keep going through the book and use other resources.
