K.A. Tucker is one of my go-to authors when it comes to the romantic suspense genre. Somehow she always manages to weave an engrossing tale with the perfect mix of heart-melting romance and gripping twists and turns. Chasing River was no exception. In fact, it may have been my favorite book in this series so far. Amber and River’s story was sweet, exciting, and rich with the history and politics of Ireland. After I finished reading this book I was definitely ready to jump on a plane. In the course of her world travels Amber finds herself in Dublin, Ireland, where she has a very unconventional first meeting with River. I admired Amber’s confidence and independence in traveling by herself and exploring new places. Due to her father’s profession as a sheriff, Amber was a rule follower who did what others expected of her. It was fun watching her let loose a bit, especially with her traveling bucket list. I would have gone chasing after River, too.River’s character sucked me in from the very beginning. His struggle between his feelings for Amber and his duty to his family was palpable. He was a good guy and quite a charmer. I loved his passion for the pub and his country. River was incredibly loyal, which did get him into some trouble. However, he also opened Amber’s eyes to that fact that everything is not always black and white. The pair had a distinct and special connection that was easy to understand. The setting of this story was vivid and captivating. Tucker did a fantastic job of showcasing Ireland’s complicated history, especially the political unrest. I greatly enjoyed the relationships between the main and secondary characters, especially where spunky Ivy was concerned. The beauty of Tucker’s stories is their uniqueness.
Rich in family history and cherished ideals, Chasing River is about two people from different worlds, different sides of the law falling for each other and they're journey to happily ever after.I think of all the books in the series, this may be my favorite. I crave stories that are rich in culture, family values, and that struggle to find who you really are in order to mature into whom you're meant to be. For me Chasing River does that. Set in present day Ireland, K.A. Tucker does a fantastic job of not only bringing the beauty of Ireland into the story, but also cultivating the history in such a way that it makes for an enjoyable read. Ireland as a whole has not had it easy. There have been decades upon decades of political and religious upheaval. I know, I lived in England in the late 70's and as a small child I distinctly remember hearing the news about IRA. I think my own experiences just added more to the story.Amber may be on a trip to experience the world, but really she's soul searching. I thought Ms. Tucker did a good job of developing Amber's character as she was before the incident in Ireland to who she becomes after. She was forced to understand a culture that was totally foreign to her where right, wrong, and injustice play a heavy theme. River was a pretty great hero. Loved his struggle in the story. Staunch family history, deep rooted values and beliefs versus the truth that is right and wrong, protecting those you love and those you are falling in love with, kept River in a pretty difficult situation. I felt like his character had the more challenging role in Chasing River.K.A. Tucker's writing is impeccable. It's matured so much from the first book I read, Ten Tiny Breaths. She writes with eloquence and determination.
Chasing River is the third book of interconnected standalones in the Burying Water series. While I’ve loved the previous books, I need a stronger word for this one because it was miles ahead of the others. There was something so special about everything Chasing River stood for. It wasn’t just a New Adult romance – it was a tale of love, self-acceptance, trust, but also so deeply rooted in history that it was fascinating.“I don’t have the luxury of weeks or months or years with him. I have only days, and I don’t want to regret how I use them.”Amber is a heroine who I admired so greatly because I could see pieces of myself in her, while also pretending I was her. She’s spending her time traveling the world, something that made her desires and her problems that much more appropriate to the genre. As a reader, I appreciate being taken on a journey and this one was something extraordinarily special. She was learning to trust herself, but she was figuring out how to navigate relationships with those around her, realizing that people change and grow – much the same way she was. I thought that Rider was the perfect counterpart for Amber. He had got lost somewhere between duty and family and the right thing. It wasn’t until Amber came into his life that he could see the greater picture and how his actions, or inactions in some cases, proved to be a bigger question of morality. He was never pushy or demanding, yet he somehow knew just where and how much to force Amber to question her circumstances. I was yearning for these two to get some sort of a happy ending from the very first moment they met, but you’ll just have to read it to find out what happens.
