I read the first book in this series a few years back, and I managed to find this volume very cheap so I figured why not check it out?***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS***How is this book? Well you know how the first movie in a series is usually great and the second one is just kind of okay? Well that's how this book is, it's just okay. David and Sarah are still driving around and doing what they do best, crushing zombie skulls and getting paid for it. They stay at a college campus or something that is like a walled settlement that is safe. And honestly I'd like to know more about that place. That sounded interesting! I want to know more about the people there and what they did before the ZA and about life in that settlement! But then the plot moves forward. Our two heroes are given a job by a scientist to bring zombies back alive so he can test his serums on them. If you have read any zombie books or watched any zombie movies, you know where this is going and what is going to happen, so it's very predictable. It's only mildly entertaining and it's not as good as the first book.***END SPOILERS*** ***END SPOILERS*** ***END SPOILERS***All in all, this book is disappointing. The ending is predictable, the characters are pretty bland, the plot is recycled from many other books and video games, and it gives me very little desire to read the next one in the series. If you are bored and can get a copy from the library it helps to kill time with some zombies, but don't expect anything amazing.
The first book in this series was great but I felt like this one was just okay. I had trouble sticking with it. I think it's because the couple fought so often just after the first book when they were going through all of the zombie drama and it brought them together. Now suddenly it's tearing them apart and I wasn't a fan.
Okay, so let me start off by saying that this series is probably one of the shallowest, fakest, most unrealistic zombie apocalypse books I have ever read (and I've read A LOT) however, this book still managed to be amazing. Why? Because it's campy and silly and I think David and Sarah are one of the most realistic, cutest couples ever. There isn't any fake insta love stuff going on here, just more good times built on from the first book. I had a bit of an issue with the whole 'mad scientist and genius kid' theme that was going on, but Ms. Petersen manages to carry it with well placed jokes and a natural talent for writing. There are some authors out there with credentials galore that think they can write but fail miserably. This is almost the opposite. Ms. Petersen has a wonderful, casual tone that just seems so right, especially for this genre. I would love it she would continue with other urban fantasy novels in the future. If you like this book, you will love: My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland or the movie, Zombieland.
This series is awesome! If you're a fan of zombie movies like Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland, then you'll love this. Husband and wife team, Dave and Sarah, are in the Zombie-killing business--and business is a-booming. That is, until they discover a new strain of Zombie; one that is stronger, faster, and smarter. How will they get out of this one? It has you at the edge of your seat. They run into a doctor whose working on a cure, but needs their help to acquire zombies to be his "test subjects." They also gain a side kick named, Robbie; he's pretty resourceful 11-year-old who provides many laughs and smart-alecky comments.I didn't read book 1 of this series, and I didn't really need to. Book 2 never really made me feel like I missed a beat. Very entertaining and engaging ride with a great dose of comedy, action, horror, and a touch of romance. I highly recommend this series. I will soon read book 1 and anxiously await book 3.
Not only do I love the book titles, the books themselves are great! Do read them in order, or you may miss something important. I have now become a reader of Jesse Peterson and will continue to read any and all books in this set of books and will be reading other books from the author.Such a unique was of telling a story that, while it is doubtful that this would every happen, it is very interesting to read about and get sucked into the lives and times of an alternate world based on ours. I cannot wait to see what happens next!PS: I don't like to give spoilers :)
After reading the first book in the series, Married with Zombies, I have been anxiously awaiting the second installment of the Living with the Dead series. I'm a big zombie fan, and I've always been a little bummed that so few people take advantage of the opportunities for humor where zombies are concerned. Possibly one of the reasons I'm so in love with these books is that they are funny, and there's all the zombie stuff of course, but they have a certain mix of dark reality, humor and real people that make these books so enjoyable.Flip this Zombie focuses on what David and Sarah have been doing since the world fell apart and picked itself back up and moved on a little. Considering their zombie killing tactics learned early on, they've set up shop as the go-to-guys for all your zombie killing needs! The plot of Flip this Zombie dips into the dark reality that not all people are good - and if given the opportunity they could very well do some very bad things. But you have the ZombieBusters to call on for help, laughs and a decapitated zombie. There are some seriously awesome parts that I will not spoil, I'll just tell you to get ready to reread some parts and laugh!I laughed. I got a little squeamish. And I think I'll be sleeping with the lights on tonight.
