Now released for the first time as a standalone audiobook, House of the Rising Son, previously a part of the Dark Bites story collection from number-one New York Times best-selling author Sherrilyn Kenyon. The eldest son in a family of three boys, Aricles had no desire to be a soldier, even though his fighting skills were among the best in the world. He was more than content on his small Atlantean farm, living a quiet, uneventful life. But when his brother is determined to don a soldier's uniform, Aricles joins him with a promise to their father to bring his brother home in one piece. What he never counts on is how much their new lives will forever change them or what the risk of a forbidden love will ultimately cost him.

I haven’t read Styxx and I was glad I hadn't since House of The Rising Son is a prequel to Styxx. This story lays the ground work for Styxx's romance, so if you haven't read Styxx yet, read this first. If you have read Styxx, read it again after reading House of the Rising Sun, you will have a brand new love for Styxx's.Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of the best selling authors out here with many of her series intertwining with one another creating a unique reading experience simply not found elsewhere. This is the love story of the Egyptian goddess, Bathymaas, and the human farmer/warrior, Aricles. I absolutely LOVE this story. Aricles’s chivalry and chaste love for his goddess totally made me smile. It is a beautiful love story that ends in tragedy and completely broke my heart in the process.Bathymaas and Aricles’s story is not over, it is continued in Styxx. If you have an open mind you will be hooked you with ‘House of the Rising Son’, and if not already a fan you will be. I hope you have some vacation time saved up. Kenyon’s character and world building is unique and vividly draws the reader into the stories. I can definitely recommend this book to any reader who enjoys paranormal books.

I'll admit, I haven't read one of her books in a long time . They used to be among my favorites. I lost interest along the way, her writing change things got redundant , and I developed other interests . This book was amazing , and has rekindled some of what I used to love about her books . I had introduced my son to the Chronicles of Nick , perhaps it's time for me to go back and enjoy the books that started it all . I'm so glad I read this book . What an amazing love story

"A drama or literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin or suffers extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of a tragic flaw, moral weakness, or inability to cope with unfavorable circumstances."I love that the HEA is in another book. Otherwise, this would just be a captivating but tragic tale. I cannot get over how lifelike and real SK makes her protagonists...I couldn't recommend this more highly - it is a hook and I am caught! Bravo, SK, bravo!

House of the Rising Son is a short back story to Styxx. Before Styxx and Bethany, there was Aricles and Bathymaas. This short story was also in the anthology Dark Bites. Aricles is a simple farmer, wanting only to work the land and provide for his father and two brothers in ancient times; he wishes to stay out of the wars between the gods and their pantheons. The goddess Bathymaas and her general arrive at the farm looking for Aricles brother to offer him as spot in her personal guard but mistake Aricles for his twin. When the offer is made for both, they go to war; Aricles goes to protect his brothers back. Bathymaas’ guard soon becomes invincible and in doing so anger the other gods; Aricles in particular angers Apollo and Apollo wants revenge.

There was no attempt to make these characters sound like they lived in the time of ancient Greece, (lots of contractions and words like 'weird' and 'team'), no attempt to be consistent (a Goddess who cannot be hurt, but is struck, falls, bleeds and is nearly raped?), and a storyline & sex scenes that felt embarrassingly juvenile. When I wasn't cringing, 'House of the Rising Son' was a snooze-fest I couldn't finish.

Anything that Sherrilyn Kenyon writes is phenomenal. She has been my favorite author for over ten years and with every book, she gets better. This book is part of the Dark Hunter series and it is fabulous. I couldn't put it down and was upset when I finished the book. Can't wait for the next book because I'm sure it will be better than the last.

Good back story, but sad. I love this series and always look forward to a new book set in this world. Sherrilyn is hands down my very favorite author. I read so, so many books and I still look forward to any book she publishes. You knew this story was going to be sad going in but I'm glad I read it still because it gives you insight into the characters. Good read.

Want more of the Dark Hunters and await the next endeavor of creative writing. I 've been hooked from the very first release and can't get enough. Some off the twenty-five dark hunter novels are memorable other then to carry themselves. House of the Rising Son stand alone as a worthy read.
