This is a book with lots of super images that artists have taken of work produced that falls within the title. The selections are lovely and it would be a nice gift for anyone who appreciates art and/or design. The one downfall is the descriptions provided with the images. These must be generated by the artists because the language used is not uniform, making it almost impossible to determine what is being said. There are attempts to describe what techniques were used to create each item, but the descriptions are not clear enough for one to be able to draw meaning from them in many cases.
Somehow I expected more from a Lark Crafts book. I've been making and selling pottery for lo these many years. I didn't find much I would truly new..but a nice retrospective!!
These ideas will get you to think outside of your routine. You will want to try something new. Turn a new page everyday as you start your clay work.
Good selection showing printing on clay of talented artists. The only thing missing was instructions on how to do each one!
A colleague urged me to submit to the jury for this book....I was so pleased to have my piece accepted....but when I saw the more than excellent work on every page , I was humbled that I had been accepted.
I love the '500' series of pottery inspiration books and this one is a happy addition to my collection. Lark does a great job with these books.
For some reason, it just wasn't that exciting to me, possibly because so much of it was way out there. My favorite piece is on the cover, bottom right hand corner, kind of a take on Coney Island/popcorn bags. That was wonderful, but the rest left me unimpressed. I've been thinking of doing prints on my clay work, so really anticipated this book.
