Burgmüller's most famous work, the 25 Progressive Pieces, are short compositions with descriptive titles. Easier than his Opp. 105 and 109, each selection exposes students to a different technical challenge with the main emphasis on the phrasing, articulation, and dynamics often found in Romantic piano music. The collection includes "Arabesque" and "Ballade," both popular with many early-intermediate pianists. Pianist Valery Lloyd-Watts studied at the Conservatory of Music in Toronto and the Royal College of Music in London. She earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she studied with Paul Badura-Skoda. She co-authored the text Studying Suzuki Piano: More than Music, which was endorsed by Dr. Suzuki.

Wow, this book is a treasure. I am taking lesson for 3 years and as an adult, my fall back is speed as I don't have flexible fingers like young kids. I have been doing Hanon trying to strengthen and to keep my fingers flexible, but I get so bored with the monotone. I still am at a beginner/intermediate level (4) and this book is just perfect to learn and practice. This book is definitely great until advanced level, as it will be so enjoyable to play and you will never get bored. All 25 pieces have beautiful melodies and so enjoyable to learn and most importantly...the speed. I listened to the CD and it helps so much to feel the speed; and with such lovely melodies, I could not get bored. This book is sooo worth it to have in your collection. I'm so glad I have it in my collection.Play on :)
I just bought this book for my mother-in-law because this was one of my favorite piano collections as a young pianist. I love the pieces (ALL of them!) because they're not too difficult to play, yet they sound beautiful and impressive. A MUST for every intermediate pianist!
As an adult student.. i can't fault when a product comes with a CD and I also love the prevention of this product - good size and didn't compromise for cost basis! A great one for any student in the late beginner to early intermediate (but if you are like me a 5 month student, haas a great piano teacher, and a little zest for life then you want to challenge your progress .. look no further). The accompanying CD really helps with the practice and progression of reading music. highly recommend this version versus the non-cd version out there. you get what you pay for.
My kids' piano teacher started teaching this. Every piece in it is so well-written, so beautiful that you often forget they are improving the young students' techniques dramatically. Anyone who is serious in learning piano needs to pick this up as soon as possible.The accomany CD works as expected.
This is a great book for young or old students. The pieces are progressive, as stated in the title (the next piece is a little more difficult than the one before it). Learning these pieces will help the Late Beginner/Early Intermediate player to progress.The CD that comes with it is an added bonus. I would recommend this book to any serious student.
Part of my standard curriculum for my early to mid intermediate students. I like this edition as the print is large enough and easy to read enough the students can get through comfortably. The cover is attractive and it is not expensive which is always a plus. The markings are accurate. FYI, the titles are in English for each piece. And depending on the publisher, there are discrepancies on the English Titles for these pieces. It's not difficult to look up the original title if you need them for programming purposes.
It has many of the classics needed for beginner practice. It also comes with a very nice CD as an accompaniment. Would highly recommend for beginner students.
We had a book before, but I bought this one as it has a CD with it. I really like the CD come with this book, the pieces are beautiful, gives good reference for me and my son for his piano lesson.
