There's plenty to like. There's one thing I expect in Real Books and didn't find in this one. The table of contents is usually listed twice: once in alphabetical order (as is done here), and another time by author/musician (that isn't done in the edition I bought). This wouldn't have changed my mind about buying the book--having so many tunes in one place is irresistible--but I was a little disappointed. If you read this, you won't have to be disappointed in the same way. If you use the Look Inside feature, you won't find the tunes grouped by musician either, so no one was trying to deceive me (it was only my own expectations). This experience is comparable to going to a decent restaurant, having a nice meal and finding out they don't have toothpicks (not finding a toothpick actually bothers me a little more than missing the second version of the TOC.)I haven't bought a Real Book since the mid-90s. If you know when this changed, or if you know that it's still being done on other Real Books, please comment. I'm curious.

If you're a blues lover, you'll really like this book. Especially if you know chords and enjoy playing from fake books, not full staff. You won't find 70s and 80s blues rock originals (like Allman Brothers or Rolling Stones originals), but you'll be pleased with the collection of standards from the 30s through the 60s (Muddy Waters, B.B. King, etc).I also love the fact this book includes a lot of Robert Johnson classics. In short, money well spent!

I don't own this, but I was in a big B&N the other day and spent about 10 minutes thumbing through it. Chords, lyrics and melodies seem pretty well done. But a lot of the tunes are missing those signature licks that can really distinguish one blues song from another. The Real Rock book was also in the store and it is much, much better - in fact I just ordered it from .

Being a former Reedman, I'm very familiar with the Real Book format. The Real Blues Book has most of the traditional Blues Songs that I've enjoyed hearing and performing. It's print is clear and the chord progressions are accurate and easy to read. This allows me to play the songs on flute or keyboard with accuracy. That internalization allows my accompanying and soloing on drums and percussions to be more articulate and melodic. For the traditional Blues lover, this is a must have. However, It doesn't include the lyrics to the songs. Otherwise, I'd give it five stars.

My grandson has been taking guitar lessons for 5 years. He now loves the blues. I purchased this for his guitar lessons. His teachers was impressed with the book

I will never need a computer to look up lyrics and notation for 99% of Blues songs. A very handy reference book :)

I play piano and enjoy blue grass. Lot's of songs where, most new to me (I'm a beginner in BlueGrass so they may be old standards), and not duplicated in my few other BG books. The main issue was my misunderstanding that the songs would not be in the key of C - most are 4 and 5 sharps, causing me to stretch my skills. I thought 'C Instruments' meant key of C, but that's not true.

I have both the Kindle and spiral version of this book. I have also given this book as a gift. This book has simple versions of blues standards, which fit on one or two pages, so that readers can see the entire score when sitting on a music stand. The book also contains the lyrics to each song. Overall, I recommend this book for beginning guitar players, because the notation is so simple and fairly easy to read. My only complaints are that the spiral version falls apart easily, if you treat it too roughly in the rehearsal room or blues club. The Kindle version is nice because you can easily enlarge each page, but you cannot go to the second page of a score in an enlarged format. I recommend both versions.
