This is a great book for the early intermediate student who wants to learn some fiddle tunes -- and also a good resource for the professional wanting to add a few to repertory. The tunes come from many nationalities. None use position work, though the later ones get a bit tricky and have page turns. It's not a book for serious ethno research, but just a good library book for the studio.The duet accompaniment is great for helping students be steady and sounds good. Some of these come with a CD, though this one didn't.
I purchased this for my 11 yr old son who has been playing violin for the past year in school. He asked his teacher about music another class was playing and it came from this book so naturally he wanted it. Started playing as soon as the book arrived in the mail. I love the sound of music playing in the house when I'm trying to just get housework done or dinner ready. Sweet.
Fiddle music isn't just for country bumpkins. It's just one more style that provides variety. Each song provides an historical background, the melody, and a trio - suitable for all abilities...and fun to play!
I was disappointed to find out the cd wasn't included. After an exercise, it will say , 'play track 3', but there is no track 3! However, this will be a fun book to work through, to break up the monotony of twinkle twinkle from the other books I'm working through.. so 3 stars.
