3.5 StarsFor a book that started so well, I unfortunately was left feeling somewhat underwhelmed with the ending of this series. I really quite enjoyed the first 60% where Creighton and Holly basically reconnected and knocked down barriers, but then I started to find events somewhat predictable. The two major dramatic twists, I saw coming a mile away. Now I am a fairly perceptive and intuitive reader so I may have just read situations leading to these twists well, but one of these things I started suspecting in book two and the other I knew what was going to happen straight away. Because of this, the big build up to the ending just sort of plateaued for me.One thing that really got to me was that the events leading to the cliffhanger of the previous book didn’t appear resolved to me. I can’t believe that they never spoke of it again, especially considering events that occur in this book. I know this is a work of fiction but I think there has to be a certain level of realness to every book and I think a reasonable person would be expecting this conversation to take place.What I found quit interesting is that I actually really ended up liking Creighton while I struggled to connect with Holly at times. This is a complete 180 from what I felt after reading the first book. I couldn’t stand Creighton then. I found him way too arrogant and aggressive but in the end I really, really liked the human side that came out of him. I’m not sure I could have finished this series if we didn’t see this progression.This was the first series by Meghan March that I read and although I wasn’t blown away by it, I am still very interested to read her Beneath series.
