A straitlaced bookseller and a rowdy trail guide fight their ill-suited attraction in Book Five of the Prairie Hearts series by USA Today bestselling author Caroline Fyffe. Wyoming Territory, October 1883 Tabitha Canterbury came to Logan Meadows with one goal: to open the bookshop she's always dreamed of having. In a town full of illiterate cowboys, though, making the Storybook Lodge a success is easier said than done. And things get more complicated when the saloon next door gets a new co-owner and Tabitha finds herself falling for the wrong sort of man.... After a lifetime guiding settlers across the prairie, Hunter Wade isn't looking to stay put in Logan Meadows. But as a partner in the Bright Nugget saloon, he's determined to turn a profit - and if that puts him in competition with Miss Hoity-Toity Canterbury, that's fine. Even if she is beautiful, and clever, and always ready with a witty retort. Can these two stubborn souls come together - or will pride keep them apart?

I enjoyed this story that kept me captivated with its mystery, romantic suspense, unexpected circumstances, trouble-makers, danger and new beginnings. Tabitha Canterbury had a dream to opening a bookstore, even if it meant leaving her parents in New York and traveling to Wyoming where she has an Aunt and Uncle, siblings of her mother. She has given up on love and marriage and accepted she is a spinster, but she has her books and her bookstore. Hunter Wade finds himself the half owner of the Bright Nugget Saloon in Logan Meadows instead of the cash payment owed him for a job. Hunter spent his years helping lead wagon trains across the West since he was a young boy. At forty, maybe settling down in a town will be a nice change. The story has many people that are regular people from previous stories, but this story will read well as a standalone.“A man’s good word is his most vital possession, Hunter. Don’t ever forget it. “Please think before you speak. Once your words are out, it’s impossible to call them back.”The plot’s main characters are Hunter Wade and Tabitha Canterbury who develop a unique relationship. Hunter never had proper schooling and has asked Tabitha to help him improve his reading. They appear to be developing romantic feelings but also have a way of aggravating each other. As Tabitha tries some new promotions to grow her business with a Tuesday night book reading, Hunter is impressed with her business sense. When Hunter attempts to do the same for the Bright Nugget, animosity comes from a misunderstanding when Dichelle Bastianelli arrives in town as a singer. Trouble is stirring between the whites and Chinese that puts some neighbors in a life and death situation.

This story is so good that it was hard to put down. As all the other books in The Prairie Hearts series. There are so many twists and turns in each book that you are drawn in from the beginning to the end. This one is no exception. Each character is well developed and each has so many facets to them that you never know how this story is going to turn out.I loved the main characters Tabitha and Hunter. Two different and unique characters brought together under meeting in the mercantile right after Hunter Wade reaches town. From then on all kinds of things happen and you are surprised at each turn in events. An awesome story that leaves you wanting the next book right away. Hopefully there will be a next story as there is still so much in this town of Logan Meadows that needs to be explored in my opinion, and people who either are really “characters” if you know what I mean.I love all the stories I have read of Caroline Fyffe’s from the Prairie Hearts series to her awesome and fun McCutcheon Series.Caroline creates those characters that you love to read about and stories that your heart clamors for. Her scenes are described in a way that you feel you are there kind of watching things just from the edges of each scene. Inside the buildings, walking down the street, watching other well known characters go by the window of the book store or mercantile or saloon in Hunter’s case in this story. You feel like you are part of the town immediately. These to me are the things that make each of her stories great and so fun to read.If you haven’t read any other books in this series start with the first one and continue to get to know the characters and the town and how it came to be.
