On December 12th, 1982, a strange house in the remote mountains of North West Georgia became a bloody slaughterhouse for two men and their dogs. One of the victims—an accomplished scientist and university professor—experimented with the occult. A self-portrait found at the crime scene appeared to depict the professor gagged with gunshot wounds to his head, exactly as his body was discovered by investigators. Had he gazed into the future and witnessed his own death—or had the painting inspired the murder? The case became a media sensation with allegations of satanic cults, supernatural curses, and mind control experiments. The only thing stranger than the murders themselves was the legal odyssey that followed, resulting in four Supreme Court decisions and revelations that would stun the judicial system. After years of research involving court transcripts, audio recordings, and interviews with the participants in the case—including the murderers themselves—author Daniel Ellis peels back the layers of legend to reveal the truth behind one of the most bizarre true crime cases ever to emerge from the dark Southern woods—Corpsewood: A True Crime Like No Other.

I have been helping my friend Daniel Ellis for several years now (mainly encouragement) with his writing of this book. Daniel himself is so interesting and has gone to great lengths to get the truth, not just tales told. The book is larger than I thought it would be but I can not put it down. Not once has my mind drifted. Every word almost makes you feel you are there. The whole story is so bizarre and knowing some of the people and places, makes it that much more interesting. Daniel this is excellent!, as I knew it would be. Ruth Pinion Hicks

This book is amazing. I have read much about the case over the years and this is by far the most factual and accurate account of what happened that tragic night. A big thank you and kudos to author Daniel Ellis for actually sifting through all the information and misinformation to accurately transcribe what happened in a most compelling way. That couldn't have been an easy task and his research appears impeccable. I thought I knew the story but Ellis has uncovered details and facts few are aware of. Unlike most of the other books on this subject, which seem to be written by weekend-writer types, Ellis proves he is the real deal and a talented scribe in his handling of the material and evidence. He doesn't cheapen the story by traveling down the sensationalism road as others seem to do whenever they recount this mysterious case. He masterfully uses the inherent intrigue of the facts and story itself to pull you in. And pull you in it does. I can’t put it down!

I've read a few books from other authors on Corpsewood but I could've found the stuff they wrote about all by Googling it. You can tell Daniel took a long time researching people, a lot of people, especially friends of Charles and Joey. He got to know them and in return you get to know them as well in this book. You also get to know the killers and other key players. I learned things I did not know, which is unusual because of Trion being such a small town. I read the book on my Kindle and didn't realize how lengthy it was. But I could not put it down!!! This is a must read with true facts.

A well-written account that sticks to the facts but nevertheless brings humanity to this hideous tragedy of a crime. It's not easy to stay interested in legal procedures that go on this long but Ellis manages it masterfully. Bravo!

This is by far the best book there is out there about the Corpsewood Murders. It is very descriptive and detailed! You can tell there was a lot of research put into this book!! Don't go to any other book other than this one. Daniel done his research to give us the facts. The others are a bunch of jumbled up words that are hard to follow!! GET THIS BOOK!

I thought I had read most everything true-crime, but this book was, as other reviewers have commented, 'un-put-downable.' Thoroughly gripping story. If it were fiction, no one would believe it. True, I did get a little bored during the (endless) trial proceedings, but then, I always do. I suspect both killers had been to the castle several times for physical and pharmaceutical 'fun & games,' and were scoping it out for robbery potential, all along. Maybe if West had been put on death row after his first killing (toddler nephew), the three victims in this case would still be alive. It's something to think about. Highly recommended reading.

This book was well written and the author did extensive research, which made it easier to understand and be able to imagine it. I always enjoy being able to do that. But this is the first book online that I have come across that had such details and it was a pleasant surprise. Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading more from this author. But this book may not be for everyone as it gets very detailed in a lot of areas that may bore some (like the courtroom battles).....I tell you though this man had so many court battles and the supreme court really looked out for him, most prisoners would do anything just to have the supreme court read theirs, and his was thrown out three times. Someone definitely was looking out for him...

This is the most well written book on the murders, it is very detailed and makes you can't wait to turn the page. It's obvious that Daniel Ellis has put in alot of time and research into writing this book . He also has made sure everything is accurate. Once you start reading it, you don't want to put it down.I can't express enough how thankful I am to finally putting a true book out. Great job!
