Ebooks To Download

When she suffered the tyranny of silence, of not having a voice, Yvonne ended up keeping horrible secrets. In her courageous memoir, she breaks the chains of silence and reveals an incredible story of evading the Nazis, escaping the threat of annihilation, surviving in strange worlds, and finding love and a new life. This book is a testament to the human spirit.Yvonne Carson-Cardozo was twelve years old when she and her family escaped the German occupation of Belgium. She lost her brother and fifty relatives to the death camps. As a refugee, she traveled to France, Spain, Jamaica, and West Indies. She joined the Dutch Indonesian Army and served in Australia and Indonesia, where she worked in the Netherlands Forces Intelligence Service, deciphering and encoding secret military telegrams. After the war, she eventually settled in the United States, her home for the past fifty-five years. She has two children and lives in California. On Veteran’s Day 2013, Yvonne was honored as Veteran of the Year for the city of Mission Viejo, California.

I've heard from many children of Holocaust that their parents have never talked about their wartime experiences. Thus, they don't understand their parents behavior and how it was shaped by their experiences. Kudos to Ms. Carson-Cardozo for breaking her silence, for her sake and her children's sake. She has an amazing story of fortitude, courage, and adaptability.

Yvonne tells her story of traveling with her family and evading the Nazis. Her story is inspirational and deeply moving! She is a Dutch Jew, and relates her experiences as such. She and her sisters joining the service was just so courageous and showed their great resilience! Thanks for sharing your story, Yvonne!!

Yvonne' s story of her life during and after the Holocaust is all too familiar. Belgian by birth, she and her family suffered the pain and tragedies we have read of so many times. Every biography and autobiography of those events is individual, but similar to the others. The pain, tragedy, loss, death, and sometimes survival of Jews and others during WWII must never be forgotten nor denied. I highly recommend this true story of one woman's life. NEVER FORGET.

Great first hand account as a young European Jew during WWII. I had the pleasure of meeting Yvonne last year, and you'd be happy to know she was doing very well and was fully of energy. Thanks Yvonne for sharing your difficult story.

This book honestly sets the record straight about the fear of a child and the knowledge that secrets were kept in many families of that era. These secrets were meant to be shared with the world and the truth needed to be told giving us clarity of the true fear of a little child. A thought provoking well written truth. Blessings to all.

Mrs. Cardiozo's book is very good and an easy read. It is well written and also tells about her life after the war. You can feel her great loss and the horrific way her people were treated. Thank you for keeping hope alive by sharing your life with us.

I found this story to be different from others that I have read because it did not dwell on the concentration camps. It must have been frightful to have to watch what you said so that you did not give yourself away not where your family might be hiding in the hopes of surviving. A good read.

A heartbreaking true story which must have been very difficult for Yvonne to write. I admire her for revisitng the horrific experiences her family went true. Overall I found her writing style to be alittle mundane and boring at times. She was inclined to passively go from experience to another and not really expand on them. Her experience in hospital when the family shifted away must have felt very isolating for her and her sister but feelings were just glossed over. Consequently the story did not "come alive". However I would recommend the book.
