This book contains eight various pieces that are actually violin, harpsichord or cello pieces that are simply transposed into the appropriate range for playing on electric bass guitar. I can read music well and have many years of experience on electric bass, but if you don't know any of these pieces it is hard to have any feeling for each piece. None of these pieces are likely to be anything you have ever heard before, and almost all of the pieces are heavy sixteenth notes from beginning to end. The other disappointing part of the package is that the CD is played with what sounds somewhat like an electric bass sound on some tracks, however, many of the tracks are played as MIDI tracks and sound like they are being played back on a very cheap PC speaker instead of a stereo speaker. The overall printing quality of the book is very good, although the book is pretty short with only eight pieces, several of which are only one or two pages long.Note: This is the same book as http://www..com/J-S-Bach-Electric-Bass-Arranged/dp/0634031430/ but includes the CD with it.
There was another reviewer who had a big problem with the CD. I should have listened. For a PhD, the author has very little sense if he was willing to release this package with this unlistenable joke of a CD. He also should have expanded somewhat on the scant few paragraphs in the beginning of the book. With a little more historical background it may have salvaged this miserable collection of obscure pieces. Well, so much for higher education!
