I am new to the guitar, but not music. I wanted to some music I could entertain my two young boys with and did not want any complicated arrangements. 101 songs using G, C and D7 fits the bill. This is not for the experienced guitar player, as you might find the songs limiting, as written. In all, I am happy with the book and my boys get a kick out of watching daddy play and sing.
This is a great book to get started playing a lot of familiar little songs. I used it to learn songs for my preschool class. I have also bought 101 Three Chord Songs for Hymns and Gospel as well as 50 Three-Chord Christmas Songs.
book has music for lute, guitar and banjo, easy to read (as are all Mel Bay books), good selection of songs. chords used in this book are right at the beginning and 5 string banjo rolls. songs including: Baa Baa Black Sheep, Bingo, Black eyed Susie, Farmer in the Dell, Froggie Went a Courtin, just to name a few. Good book
I have several of these 3 chord songbooks and they are usually pretty good for the beginner in getting you going with a simple melody and this is no exception. My reason for rating it as 3 stars is one song - "Three Sight-Challenged Mice" (Page 121). The words and the cadence of "Three Blind Mice" have been modified to fit someone's vision of correctness.
