A very good adjunct to the Coursera course "History of Rock - Part One." Not really needed to get through the course. Large format (8 x 10) paperback, about 600 pages including Index and Glossary. High price is the only negative.
turned out to be one the best investments I've ever made for a class. So glad now that I didn't rent it because it is definitely something that anyone who appreciates music like myself will want in their collection.
but I actually really like it. It's interesting and I love the listening sections. I enjoy learning about music, so this is a keeper for me!
Love this book!!! It is a great addition to the course on coursera.org. I have learned so much about rock and roll than I ever knew before.
The book is a great read and has a heap of great infomation and great references very user freindly and enjoyable
Dry but full of historyLimited to writing with a few photos and analysis of songs.The course is informative but due to copyright costs, there is no rock music or videos.Students put together playlists which supplement the book.Also Time Warner has a video series you can rent from Netflix.Very expensive considering online education.
If you're a true music fan, I highly recommend this book. I rented it for a music class I took as a humanities elective necessary to graduate, but I wish that I had purchased the book now. There is so much information in the book that I believe, as a music fan is really important info to know. Music has come so far, and this book does a great job of explaining the origins of where it all began and evolved. Really great book.
I bought this to accompany a Coursera class on the history of rock. The book was optional but I purchased it anyway in order to dive deeper. Note this is actually a text book, hence the higher price. I'm glad I bought mine and have no plans to resell it.
