This book caught me completely by surprise, first at how life can change quickly... and how the author, along with so many others can get caught in unrelenting and tragically difficult circumstances without ever knowingly committing a crime. This book is well worth reading for the story, but more--the deeper wisdom--how our thoughts and energies can help us or make a bad situation worse. How deep betrayal can transform to forgiveness, and how love can keep us going even in the darkest of times.
The Author tells her story of a sudden arrest for an unknown crime and being escorted from a US airport to a jail. Cold, cramped and alone she does her best to cope with her new environment and neighbors. This is a very vivid description of life in a US jail and one woman's attempt to make lemonade out of lemons. Her seemingly endless journey is marked with endless disappointments from the justice system. But with the help of her faithful boyfriend, and a handful of friends and relatives, she sets out on her self induced spiritual journey. I loved the honesty of this story. As a woman who was once falsely arrested too, I could identify strongly with this author and I found her descriptions to be very accurate. This is the stuff that is usually "the skeleton in the closet" and is the kind of thing that most people do not want to talk about and most people certainly don't write a book about it. The book will lift your spirits when you see how Karin uses the time to grow as a person and explore her spiritual side...a side that she has ignored for too long. This book taught me a lot. The incredible length of her incarceration and affect it had on her was very well written. Karin Volo is one of my modern day Heroine's along with Amy Purdy and a few other women who have survived through some insurmountable trials in life. I was glad to get to know her better through this book.
What incredible writing!Without a doubt, this woman's true life story is the stuff movies are made of, and just reading the basic premise, I had to know more of the story.What I couldn't know was how well that story would be told!Karin has done an amazing job of surviving & thriving after unspeakable events challenged her. Maybe it's not surprising that she has done such an amazing job of sharing the story in such an engaging way.
WOW!!! What a story...if I didn't know it was true I would have thought this book was a work of fiction but it's not. I am amazed by this story, the injustice, the blessings and the love. I am so glad that I read this book, it reads like a thriller and I couldn't stop myself from reading it through in one sitting. There's a beautiful love story in here and a mighty blessing for all who read it.
I received this book last night, sat down at 9pm to glance at it before going to bed...only to finish it 4 hours later! Wow, I am humbled to have read this story of resilience. Karin's bravery and composure during such a dark, scary and uncontrollable time, is inspiring. I think many will find strength in the lessons they read here.
This book offers an incredible journey for anyone to take when you open to the first page. Karin is certainly a great storyteller and you are waking up with her each and everyday taking each step with her as she faces the most horrific 1,352 days any human can battle.She shows a wonderful spiritual journey of growth in courage,love,patience and joy that all of us should read and thank Karin for sharing with us.Reading her book certainly opens your eyes to what can happen to any of us at the blink of an eye. She is a woman of determination to come out on the other side with grace and a bright new future and above all,back in the loving arms of her family.I have spent many years reading spiritual journeys and Karin's book is on the top of the list. Awesome story of courage and inspiration! Karin Volo is a true heroine of an unbelievable journey that will leave you on the edge of your seat. If you thought you had troubles and fears, it doesn't compare to what Karin went through in this amazing true life story. It takes an inner strength to share this so openly with the world. Karin is a role model for going through trials and tribulations with Grace and Peace. I applaud Karin for her honesty and transparency. It makes her gift and blessing so much more valuable by bringing JOY and engagement to her clients and the whole world.
I couldn't put this book down I had to keep turning the pages. I read it over two days. This is not a fictional story it is real, heart breaking and inspiring. I was taking on an incredible journey in this book with determination as the central theme. For all who read it there are many unexpected lessons along the way. The quick and skinny is this book is a must read, I LOVED IT and I know you will too!
