It KILLS me that I have to leave a 2 star review on an Armentrout book! I absolutely LOVED the Lux series, was okay with the Dark elements, disappointed with Covenant (Vampire Academy rip off), shot back up to happy when I read the Titan series. So this one… yeah I had high hopes for this since I liked the first one.The plot to this story is good but the way that it was executed was sloppy and quite annoying really. Things are constantly repeated and it all circles back to Ivy being a stupid girl. I know, I know woman should be empowering and never hate on each other… well that’s the problem, Ivy ISN’T a woman. Jennifer wrote characters that fall under the New Adult category but all we have are annoying “adults” acting like teenagers. There are so many terrible things about this that I actually had to write them down so that I wouldn’t forget to point them out to anyone who wants to read this but isn’t sure.So here are my reasons why I didn’t like this:1. We left off with Ivy finding out she is the Halfling. Okay cool, whatever. But did we have to start with her having a MASSIVE pity party? So many things could have been avoided if she had just gotten over it and owned what she was. But no… she was all “poor me”, “Ren won’t love me”, “Ren can’t handle losing me after he lost his best friend” “what am I going to do?” “I’m a disgusting abomination”… tell me why, when everyone thought the Halfling was someone else she NEVER had these thoughts. It didn’t even faze her that someone she knew was what she felt herself to be. She is such a fake “strong and brave” woman who needs other people to do everything for her, she’s useless.2. Ren… is just way too nice and understanding for everything that he says he doesn’t believe is right.
