As a long-time guitarist suddenly fascinated with the mandolin, I found this book to be very valuable. It contains a brief explanation of chord structure that is well-worth reviewing, and a complete collection of chord charts familiar to all guitarists.
I inherited my great grandfather's Mandolin, and I am FAR from becoming an expert anytime soon, but this chord guide (I have the Kindle version) is excellent!It is such a beautiful sounding instrument, and a joy (and painful) to play.This chord finder is definitely easy to use!
I keep this by my mando at all times as a handy reference guide. Learning a song and see a chord you don't know? This thing is guaranteed to have 3-4 versions of that chord, at least! I've yet to run into a dead end with this book, and it's laid out in a way that's easy to see and use.
Very useful book for the mandolin. I was unaware at the dissimilarity between Guitar and Mandolin Chords. One must pay close attention. I help me limp along until I grasped the basics and could map it out in my Mind!Recommended Purchase for any new Mandolin Player.
This book is a nice start. However, I wish that there were more fingering/shape options for each chord. If you play bluegrass this book does not show chop chords very well. It's great to give you a jumpstart but I was expecting something a little more substantial.
Somewhere along the line I had copied a dozen pages out of the middle of some other instruction book that probably covered as many chords. But that was less convenient to use and got pretty dogeared over the years. This is well-organized, with at least three versions of just about every chord you can imagine in a book that will hold together nicely. I just wish it had been ring bound so that it would stay flat.
Logical book. Gives me 11th and 13th chords. Gives me all positions. This is the only book I'll need. Too bad I bought it after buying another book that was arranged in keys.
I'm newer to the mandolin, so I found the guide pretty helpful. I'm confused that some standard chords are not listed in the book in the traditional fingerings I've learned from other guides, but other than that, I've been satisfied. It's nice to have a smaller compact guide like this rather than hunting on the internet or printing out a sheet of tiny thumbnail fingerings that you need a magnifying glass to decipher. The book is cheap enough - I'd recommend it.
