I've purchased several of Mr. Kaufman's books AND DVD's for guitar flatpicking. He's casual and laidback in his teaching approach and aside from his obvious skill level you can always count on quality instruction from him.I recently thought I'd give the Mandolin a go. SO excited, but no instructor local. Except Kaufman! How could I do better? Top notch instructor in my home, up the canyon, on the road, at my pace, on my time table.Lay out is pragmatic and clear. Explanations are thorough. I'm learning to read music notes AND play them on my mandolin, as well as chords and tab. I'm thrilled. Timing, technique, reading sharps, flats, and neutrals, playing them too. It's all here. Large size "master main chords" page. Something in the key of "A", "C", "D", "G".Songs include Cripple Creek, Cotton-Eyed Joe, Wildwood flower, Wabash Cannonball, Old Joe Clark, Eight of January, Arkansas Traveler, Roll In My Baby's Arms.Are they simple? Goodness YES! It's a "MY First" book! I'm near 50 years old but still working on learning and Kaufman is a fantastic resource to have at my place. I think I'll check out the rest of the "My First" series.
