cello parts are very basic, more like bass parts than a true duet with the melody, and on occasion there are some odd sounding harmoniesseveral errors in the printing- incorrect fingerings for violin, misspelled names (Wolfang Mozart, instead of Wolfgang)
My brother and I decided in our middle years to learn to play the violin and the cello, respectively. We sought a book of classical duets that would be easy enough for our "old" brains, yet more mature than the usual beginning duets of children's songs. We were not disappointed with this book! The violin parts are challenging on some pieces and familiarly easy on others; the cello part can get a bit boring on a few pieces but provide practice in a strong, steady accompaniment. We were very pleased with our purchase.
Pretty awful arrangements of standards you've heard a million times, such as the wedding march, dance of the flowers, canon in D, and the like. They are definitely easy though, as in you've been playing for a few months and you're a child easy. Notably the cello parts mostly consist of half notes on open strings. I would not recommend this book except to very young musicians.
My kids love this book. I have an 8 yr old on the violin and 6 year old on cello. Cello part is super easy, mostly half notes. Violin is easy as well. All the favorite recognizable songs (my kids loved little einsteins so they are familiar with these classics.) also love the piano/cello version of this book, gives the cello the melody.
