As much as I love Dina Wakely as an artist, I love her even more as a teacher. Her first book is a much referred to resource for me. I am NOT disappointed with this second book! Dina encourages you on your own journey as an art journalist and helps by showing and teaching you how. She relates to you from how she has learned but the book is not about her, its about you and how you can express your best artistic self. I highly recommend this book, as well as Art Journal Freedom.
I thought this book was not as thorough as her first one, Art Journal Freedom. The first 11 pages are almost a word-for-word copy of the first 11 pages in Art Journal Freedom. This one does include instructions on how to draw faces (4 pages with one example step-out) and how to make a stencil of yourself. She does cover new material in this book pushing for the artist to have courage enough to include themselves, draw, layer, try new techniques. Between the two books, I got more information out of the first one.
I love Dina Wakley's art. Through both her books, Art Journal Freedom and Courage, she has inspired me to try new things. This book is full of her technique and "how to" with great step by step photos. I really liked the pages where she showed how to draw a face. I never thought I could do it! I highly recommend both books!
Love the pages that tell you what to expect when layering various media. Wondering if you can use ink over acrylic paint? Or a pen over gesso? Buy this book! Best art journaling book I've ever owned. Very informative along with the usual step-by-step guides that you can tweak to make your own.
love this book, really easy to follow, there is a lot covered in this book, a lot about art journaling I have not got thru much of it...just the first few chapters amazing book very colorful pages easy to read and somewhat easy to follow. amazing book..
I really enjoyed this book. I forgot I preordered the book and it was a nice surprise when it arrived this week. I read the book straight through without losing interest and felt there was enough variety through the very vivid and colorful pages. It was well written and a great follow-up to Wakley's first book.
Another great book by Dina. This book helps you journal and put color on your pages. I am a beginner and the process that is explained in this book took me through demystifying journalling. Dina has a gift for breaking down process into very manageable steps which helps beginners. The examples and graphics are great! This is a great follow-up to her first book, which I also purchased. Great job, Dina!
I've been art journaling for a short time, and I recently picked up this book with a coupon at Joann's. I enjoyed reading about Dina's process for creating her art, and have tried almost all of the techniques taught here. I especially enjoy her instructions for drawing and shading faces - which is certainly one of the hardest parts of being a painter. I would reccommend this book for anyone just starting with journaling or mixed media painting.
