If I had to sum up The Power in Cakewalk in one phrase it would be “extreme value”. What it is NOT, is a directly competing product with a popular, similarly titled book also geared towards X2. The other product is a lot more detailed and consequently, and perhaps a little more daunting to the absolute beginner. It also costs a lot more! The Power in Cakewalk is much narrower in scope and is more quick start guide than “Sonar Bible”...and that's ok. Considering the limited number of books aimed squarely at Sonar users, materials that help get people up and running fast are just as needed as boks that go into the details of opcodes. This book will be of most benefit to the following groups:1) People completely new to Sonar2) People who used versions of Sonar prior to X series.3) Those who have not used X series in awhile and need a quick reference.I won't say this book is completely useless to the experienced X series user, but they will simply not get the same bang for their buck. With that said, sometimes it is good for the veteran to go back and look at the basics. I know I find myself set in a workflow based on workarounds only to discover that there is a better way that I somehow missed. Some learn better via books and some learn better via videos. This book combines both effectively. IMHO the author actually seems more comfortable explaining things via video than through written word. I read book cover to cover. I found the author to be obviously competent and his style to be knowledgeable. In fact, it would not be too far of a stretch to say the book covers the material covered by the “Getting Started” videos posted on Cakewalk's website, but in written form.
