I got this from my local library and read the entire thing in a few hours. It is a very concise (only 175 pages of actual text), and easy to read book about modern economic/war/political systems. It is also extremely accurate except for his opinion on the theory of mind for autistics. I have a feeling that he's read a lot on the topic, but hasn't had too many interactions with people on the spectrum, like myself. We are able to be empathetic, many times moreso than "normal" people, but don't always see the whole picture of what the other person is showing us, the way a neurotypical (someone not on the spectrum) would be able to. This means our response is frequently wrong, as with incomplete information you can easily reach the wrong conclusion.Aside from that, the picture he paints is amazing and horrifying due to the abuse of power that has been allowed and even promoted. Whenever I read a book on politics or economics, I figure if I come away horrified and infuriated (which also requires me to learn something, as reviewing already known information doesn't do that for me), the author has done his/her job. Chomsky is more than successful. He does a brilliant job of explaining things in enough detail for the person to understand if they're not familiar with the topic, while not saying too much and losing the reader. The other topics he addresses in the book are education and human linguistics. Although Chomsky gets a bit long-winded in the linguistics section, the two chapters are extremely interesting. I loved the example of the teacher of the American Revolution becoming authoritarian a couple weeks before introducing the topic as a way of getting the kids to understand what would make a people revolt.
