Let me start by saying that I'm a high-level orchestral performer. The etudes in this book, however, are too challenging. They suffer a great loss of musicality solely for the sake of being more difficult. They are good as an exercise, but I wouldn't recommend using them for students beneath graduate college level. I find that I get so bored playing these contrived sounding pieces, that I rarely bother playing the recapitulation section.I do, on the other hand really like to play from Pederson's intermediate bass trombone etude book, and use the beginning etude book often with students.
Wow, this book is full of pretty darned challenging etudes for tenor trombone. I'm going to be spending a lot of time hammering out the well-crafted solos written in here.
Just finished the book. Took me a full semester to hammer out. Good challenges.
