A MUST HAVE for any ukulele player! Has sooo many wonderful Hawaiian songs it's difficult to chose just one to learn (in my case, as a beginner). It was not hard to figure out; although a piano is a nice tool to have when learning to sing. Anyway, fantastic, I would buy again!
Good selection, but the "newer tuning for 99% of the songs should be in G C E A (my-dog-has-fleas, or, I use: "Good/Cats/Earn/Anchovies", some don't prefer dogs, I like 'em both) Anyhow the book could have used the same notes with chords in the "now regular tuning" (in my opinion only).I believe the tuning is probably the original with the song, but who wants to re-tune in several keys unless you have 6 ukes you can pick-up the correct instrument tuned for that specific song.? I'm going to have to write them in my own book myself, would be nice if they could re-publish it and do the work once (again, just my opinion). Steven B.
I have lived in Hawaii and I only recognized about 50% of the songs. Songs I expected to see but didn't "Lovey Hula Hands", "Cockeyed Major of Kanakakai", "Little Brown Girl in a little grass shack".
There will always be a debate about which songs should have been included, and you can't please everyone. What I enjoy most about the book is that it has the chord diagrams instead of just the name of the chord. I play guitar, but only started on the uke a week ago. Having the diagram is a huge help since the fingering is so different from guitar to uke. I'm loving it. Do yourself a favor and get a decent ukulele. I spent $100 on a KALA C and I'm very happy with it.
I will admit to being a beginner, but this book is NOT key friendly. If you want Hawaiian songs, look up some on YouTube n
Not a book for beginners or even intermediate. Bummed
no strum patterns, i dont understand why these arent included. I would have to look up each song on youtube to make sure im playing it correctly.
This book of Hawaiian songs is perfect for our grandson who is just starting to play the Ukulele. Thanks
