This has all the hymns known in the christian community....Amazing Grace, Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus, I surrender all, Rock of Ages....The Old Rugged Cross. I'm a pianist and this has all the music notation for over 500 hymns. This is a hardback. Keep in mind, if you're a pianist it can be hard to keep the pages from turning. I use paper clips or you can also place your bible on one of the edges to keep it from closing.I like christian music in general, but hymns are very special to me and really make my heart sing. Everytime I play these in piano, I think of my mom, more of reason why I treasure these hymns.
This Hymnal contains music from the older hymnal and some newer songs. I love it. I am always singing special music in my church and this hymnal is fun and easy for my to sight read.
You can also go to the App Store and type 'Advenitst' and you will see the Adventist Hymnal Pro and Lite version. The pro version is amazing, with scores, lyrics, midis, MP3s, etc. Highly recommended.
I grew up in the Seventh Day Adventist church, and miss these old hyms that people used to sing. For some reason, those modern day praise songs aren't as moving to me, and I turned to Jesus again after suffering from some medical problems. I find these songs to be a lot more meaningful and comforting, and I hope to use this hymnal more with my walk with God.
The current SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST HYMNAL dates from 1985 and comes in multiple cover colors besides the original handsome slate blue. Hymn selections are generous (694, not including Responsive Readings) but while all hymns show meter, not all show tune names. Selections are not much different from those in other Protestant denominational hymnals of that era, and include "Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life, "Fill My Cup, Lord," "Spirit of the Living God," "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," "Because He Lives," "Let All Things Now Living," "(The) Sweet By and By," and two versions of "Come You Faithful (Raise the Strain)." "Rise Up, O Church of God" actually contains the first-verse lyric "Rise Up, O Men of God" (oops!). I was sorry that "Majesty," "Hail Thee, Festival Day" and "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love" did not make it in. I do not know if the SDA has any plans to replace this now 28-year-old hymnal; some denominations are choosing not to do so in favor of upgraded software.
This makes piano playing from the Hymnal a real pleasure. No weighting down the pages to keep the book open. This is a real help.If you have had such experience, then you need this hymnal.
I have purchased a number of these books for use during a home Bible Study. I think that the old songs are beautiful & I enjoy introducing songs that may or may not be familiar to the group. These songs are written in a key that is easy to sing. The words of the songs are very moving. There is a section that has the song titles categorized such as in faith & trust. Responsive readings correlate with these categories which I find helpful.
