MARC CHAGALL--Born in 1887 in Russia (Lithuania) and died at almost 98 years old in 1985. He was an early modernist, producing art in almost all styles—paintings, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramic, tapestries, and more. One critic called him “the quintessential Jewish artist of the 20th century.” But Chagall labeled himself as an artist of “all humanity.”Chagall was the oldest of 9 children in his family. His father worked hard at delivering heavy barrels of herrings. His mother earned some extra rubles selling groceries from their home. Ask yourself: “What does it take for a young boy in a poor family to become a famous artist?” Good question for the kids, too. What does art from the modernist school look like? Chagall combined the styles of Cubism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Painting #1 is “Chagall’s Parents.” What can you tell from the colors and setting? Do you see “cubes?” The next painting is called “The Poet.” Do you see any symbols here? Painting #3 “I and the Village” shows cubism, symbolism and surrealism. Relate what you see and feel in this painting. Painting #10 “Birthday” seems really weird. Would you enjoy a kiss like this couple does? What else do you see and feel? You’ll see other weird paintings. Do you enjoy them? Do you get some feelings from them? What kinds?Don’t get too serious as you “get into” these paintings. Take a walk—like the couple does in #22 “The Promenade!”
I have collected 28 Marc Chagall's Paintings (Collection) for Kids. I examined 6 of those covers and found that the inside pictures were in the exact same order. At least each picture has a name but no other information. I used kindle from the Microsoft store to look at the pictures, the pictures are in color. Adults would enjoy as well as students.
The kind of artist that were he to have chosen to might have done fine paintings just traditional works alone as evidenced by "Bouquet de Fleurs" and "Portrait of Vava" but whose abstracts literally jump off the pages! Abstract works like "The Fiddler" , "Birthday" and "The Promenade" have an almost "Alice in Wonderland" air about them. I was rather amused by the imaginative manner in which he created his artwork. Very good book!.
Kudos to the developer of this app, and others they have produced. It's a wonderful way to introduce your children to art and artist. This app is not necessarily just for children! These remarkable works of art by Chagall will be greatly appreciated by grown-ups as well ... perhaps even more than the children. I really enjoyed having access to this fine collection of art work.
Great choices of paintings, but they were pretty small on the kindle, so hard for everyone to see in the classroom setting where I used it. I wish there had been a way to make them fill more of the screen.
There are just a handful of paintings but that's all you need to get the feeling of the spirit of Chagall's work. For fun, hand your Kindle to a kid and ask him or her to tell you what he or she thinks of these. A ten year old will have fun and not say, "but people can't fly!"Claudine Fall
I love having the art available at my fingertip as we study the artists. This is so convenient. We would be much less likely to complete our fine arts study without such a ready resource.
