The benefits of this book have been incredible for me. It showed me exactly how to use the system and get the hang of it. And the free newsletter subscription and worksheets that come with the book are very valuable for someone like me because I am serious about learning Italian but don't have a lot of time to spend on it. I absolutely wish I had encountered this book and the things it has helped me accomplish in such a short time years ago. It's shocking that these techniques aren't taught in school, but then I guess if they were, there wouldn't be any homework and teachers would be out of their jobs.
Since the world is globalizing quickly, it is best that we learn and use different languages. Right now, I'm fluent in both English and Swedish and want to work on my Italian much more. This book is definitely a great resource for me to learn a third language!
Hugely over-complicated. The author appears to believe that it's helpful to work through an Italian dictionary alphabetically - a highly questionable assumption, to put it mildly. To achieve this, you require a separate memory palace for every letter of the Italian alphabet, with each palace containing a multi-station journey for learning each word in order. The use of the journey technique is odd in this context, as it's designed for memorising sequences such as an oration or the numbers of Pi. This requirement to learn in alphabetical order adds an absurd amount of complexity, which the author makes no real effort to justify. Plus it makes it difficult to slot in further vocab as required. There are other approaches to memory palaces that seem much better adapted to learning vocab and grammar, but you won't find them here.
I read the book. Read it again. I do not have clue how a deck of cards and the anatomy of the author's cars helps to master Italian.
First, not much new here, plus I've seen the technique described better. Second, a disclaimer--this technique does not work for me even though, as an engineer, I'm actually good with visuals. The problem, especially as described here, is that it's easier to simply learn the word! Particularly with nouns (which seems to be the emphasis here) it's just easier to mentally "re-label" rather than try and remember some weird "picture" and action and how this connects to the word you're trying to associate it with. A better book for this technique is Gruneberg's, Italian by Association. Again, most of the images don't really work for me, but a few of them took, so it's worth a try.
