This book is great. I've waited for so long for this exact thing. There was already Functional Guitar book for Music Therapist/Music Educators... This book breaks down typical accompanying and improvisation patterns on piano for various styles of music. There is use of scales and modes and chord knowledge as the basis. This book is basically an easier version of The Pop Piano Book (Which is bigger, has more detail and other info.) But this book has more practical approach and there are exercises to practice the common patterns in the style, plus there are some songs where you can apply the learned.Like I said, its a basic book so you will not get a huge amount of detail, but you will be able to use this in a functional application (Music Therapy or Music Education as well as people who might teach voice lessons, but are not very good a piano) This book may be good for people who are not strong in piano but want to achieve basic playing skills (or improve basic playing skills) You will gain the skills to sound proficient playing piano either fake book or creating a basic accompaniment when the actual written is too difficult (In popular styles- Blues, Rock, Pop, Country/Folk, Gospel, and Jazz) If you wanted to learn more- pick up the Pop Piano Book by Mark Harrison.
