I can't say enough about the Alfred's premier piano course as a teacher. They are a great improvement over the regular Alfred's series and certainly more interesting to the student. There is no substitute for putting in the hard work and practice but these books at least make it more interesting. I am heavy on theory in my lessons so specifically really like the theory books as supplement. They coordinate with the lesson book pages which is great.
I am a piano teacher of 20 years and have switched to using this method. The theory book compliments the lesson book well. Totally I use a supplementary book for theory but find this to be a great substitute.
This is a generally nice book with some basic introductory concepts and exercises for kids- so it is written in an appealing way for kids (My 7-year old son is using it). However, I would have preferred to see clear definitions for all concepts throughout the book (even though they are well paired with the other books) as well as more exercises that involve introducing all staff notes and their relative position on the piano keyboard.
I purchased the book for my daughter since she is in conservatory. The book is very self explanatory and works well for children 5 - 10 years of age.
I wouldn't use this for beginning adults, but it's wonderful for a child just learning piano. I grew up on Alfred books when I took lessons, so I knew this series was worth the purchase.
We have two daughters both finally in the same course. Great to have two theory books. The girls love the organizer that the Premier kit came with.
