This book has a little bit for everyone. There are a few pieces in here that are good for beginners, but for the most part it is for people who have at least some experience with the recorder. There are some very nice tunes in here. Most of them sound good on any recorder (soprano, alto, sopranino, etc.). A delightful collection of traditional Celtic pieces.

I am new to recorders and part of the learning curve is the difference between C and F instruments. I chose an alto since a soprano seems to be best suited for calling coyotes, but the lowest note is an F. This means in a tune like 'A Parting Glass', when the melody goes to E you have a problem.

This book contains a large number of lively and lovely tunes that are perfect for the soprano recorder that I play. Good for an intermediate student at least, and something to aim for if you're a beginner who loves Irish music. You'll get plenty of practice on the high notes and using just about the whole range of your instrument. Guitar chords are included. It's lots of fun!

Folksy celtic tunes but you won't find any Turlough O'Carolan pieces hereFor the traditional purist who love Celtic folk tunes - you will be happy with the offering herein.Otherwise, do not touch.A collection of folksy tunes from the British Isles but notably absent are the beautifully melodious Turlough O'Carolan pieces composed for the harp and or recorder in the late 17th and early 18th century. If you are looking for those, you will be disappointed.Contained herein are simple Irish tunes, good for sight reading & articulation practice for the entire family of recorders from sopranino through to tenor.

I am an utter recorder newbie looking for interesting tunes, especially Celtic, and this book hit the mark -- as far as I can tell. This book contains over 20 tunes that seem genuinely Celtic or Irish (maybe some are Scottish). I have never heard them before. There is nothing otherwise special about the book though I do enjoy the Celtic decorations on the pages. I am enjoying learning the tunes and practicing with it. I'll make use of it for a long time to come. There is no accompanying CD.

I was looking for a good collection to learn traditional Irish music for recorder, and this is it. My only gripe is that there are no tempo markings and you have to feel out how you want to play the songs. I have been looking for recordings of these pieces with no such luck. I would recommend this for the intermediate musician looking to learn new repertoire who at least knows all of the recorder fingerings.

Nothing wrong with the tunes or the book, except that it is written for soprano recorder. Nothing wrong with that ether except that it is no where in the description or in any of the reviews. I guess it should be said so prospective buyers know what they are getting. One star may be a bit harsh for that oversight, but seeing as the recorder comes in both F and C, it should always be made very clear as to what the music is written for. If you play alto recorder this is not for you.

I ordered this because I love Celtic music, knowing I can never it as well as experts. It is great to have around if I ever do learn how to play the recorder decently. The book itself arrived in perfect condition, and quickly. The black-and-white traditional artwork on the pages is also an added plus.
