This resource is so good, I'm going to cross-review it. I actually have the Audible version, and the book is a little better still, because it has pictures. The technician exam has some pretty strange questions, and Mr. Burnette covers every one of them, makes them understandable, usually interesting, while all the time getting the whole bizarre question to stick in your head. If the technician exam is where you are headed, I can't stress enough, how good this is as a resource. Seriously, try it, you'll like it. The Audible version is also great if you learn better orally, as I do. Get it, spend a week, ace the test, and get on the air!
This is a great book. So many of the study guides are just question dumps and it's a horrible way to learn, at least for me. I need an explanation and something to keep my interest and Mr. Burnette's book fit the bill perfectly. I echo all the sentiments of the other reviewers, the author is a top notch communicator. I've been putting off getting my HAM license since about 1987. I finally decided to get around to it, and yes, I have been studying off-and-on for many years and I knew a lot of the electronics, but there are some truly specific questions in this exam that require very finite knowledge on the topic beyond just simple electronics, I really did master the topics through this book.Today, after just two weeks with the book, I took and passed my exam, fulfilling an almost 30 year goal. Thank you Mr. Burnette. Could I have done it without this book? Maybe. But, with the book it actually happened. Thank you and I just wish there was an equivalent book for general class now!
Wish Michael Burnette had one for the General Class Ham Radio License!I really like to study on my own... I am not a fast learner but I am Dog-ged! Not even sure why I bought this but I am so glad I did. Studying went from being this mountain in front of me to actually being Fun! And I went through Michael's material more than once, in fact, more that twice... but he made it interesting...I bought the Audible copy, then 3 days later I bought the Kindle copy, then I bought the Paper copy 4 days later...The Audible copy was GREAT because Michael Burnette is an exciting and entertaining and memorable guide! Some people complained about the sounds... I found that they helped me remember the points being made!The Kindle copy was great on my iPhone because with Kindles built-in link to Reference Material, I could just touch words and terms to get in-depth definitions, understanding and tie things together that I was curious about...Finally I bought the Paper copy because I like to color-code book marks for differing purposes.a) There were points that were just going to have to be memorized. (Not my favorite thing to do but... oh, well) BLUEb) There were points I wanted to keep relationships between info straight about and I wanted to understand better. (sigh... Practice...) YELLOWc) There was great information about things I wanted to work into my plan after I have my Technician License. PURPLEd) And just FUN sounding stuff PINKMichael is someone I am proud to have as a teacher! Hope to get to meet him and his wife sometime soon!Oh, and tomorrow, Labor Day, I take my Technician's Test!Yea! :-)---------------I passed my Technician Ham Radio License! A must read! This book was written in a way that I learn the fastest and had tips on how to remember things..which is good because there are a lot of unfamiliar terms to my newbie self! For my upcoming test study the instructor suggested the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual which has a lot of additional information, but for actually getting down to knowing what you need for the test, this is it! I was really bummed to see there was no General or Extra book done, we can only hope!
I have several friends that are into ham radio and have either Technician class or higher licenses. They have encouraged me to get into the game and I have started studying for the exam, only to become overwhelmed by all of the information. Michael Burnette's ham radio exam prep book is the most useful and comprehensive book that I have found on this subject and makes getting ready for this exam not only easy, but fun. I have learned so much since studying this guide and feel ready to take this exam at a moment's notice. The guide has a wealth of information, not only on the questions and answers, but on the exam itself that is sure to put any test taker's mind at ease.
