We ordered this book for a beginning band member in our family. We weren't sure exactly HOW easy these duets were but decided to give it a try. I'm writing this review so potential buyers will have a clearer idea of what this book is like. The range is from middle C to the E in the top space of the staff. Many pieces have multiple eighth notes in runs. This can make them fairly difficult, range and speed-wise for a beginning band student, although there are two or three that will probably work. I'm guessing after a full year of band under a child's belt, he/she could probably manage most of these (perhaps at a slower speed.) I wish there were a few more selections with at least one of the parts written in a narrower range, which would make more songs accessible to beginning students sooner.
This book got a good bit of use at our house this year with a fifth and sixth grader both playing Bb instruments. At their level they mostly played unison on the song they were both able to figure out. I expect to see this book for years to come.
Nice and easy pieces to play with the beginning players.
