A progressive repertoire series designed to motivate students while allowing them to progress evenly and smoothly from the earliest classics toward intermediate literature. These pieces are from the standard classical literature, chosen to appeal both to teacher and student. Each volume comes with a corresponding CD. Valery Lloyd-Watts studied at the Conservatory of Music in Toronto and the Royal College of Music in London. She earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she studied with Paul Badura-Skoda. She co-authored the text Studying Suzuki Piano: More than Music, which was endorsed by Dr. Suzuki.

My daughter (10) started this book in October 2010. She is pretty much done with it (Feb.2011). We both love it! She likes all pieces except for a couple, and I love listening to her practice. The CD is a nice help. We listen to it once she has mastered a piece just to see more or less what it should sound like.It is a very nice selection. When my daughter started this book she was starting Alfred's basic level 4, but we switched teachers who doesn't go with Alfred's program. I'm glad. This book gave my daughter an idea of a Christmas gift for her grandmother. She made a classical music CD with 12 pieces from this book. We are planning on recording them all once they are mastered and start on another CD for next year. I hope my daughter's teacher will continue with level 4 Masterwork Classics. We also just got a book Sonatina Masterowrks by Jane Magrath, Book1. Some pieces we liked in Masterworks repeat in Sonatina book, but Sonatina has I, II, III mov. etc. Masterworks was a nice start, now we can expand those learned pieces into II and III movements.I'm so glad my daughter's piano teacher picked this book!
After finishing Alfred's Adult's Self-Teaching book, I decided to go to Alfred's level 2, but then I got this book to use alongside of it. As it turns out, I am finding Masterwork Classics 3 to be more enjoyable. Alfred's does a lot with chords in the left hand, but not so much left hand independence. Masterworks is better for that. I also prefer the classical pieces in Masterwork Classics compared to the hodgepodge of folk, rock, gospel, classical music of the traditional Alfred's.Mind you, eventually I would like to be able to play rock/pop as well as classical, but for now I am wanting to play the classical pieces in Masterworks. Maybe I am enjoying them more because they sound better in its simplicity. I don't mean to bash Alfred's. I am grateful for being able to teach myself piano with their method book, and I plan on continuing my studies in Alfred's 2.The CD which comes with it is nice. It's just piano and nothing else. I often listen to it in the car so that I get used to the melodies, consciously or subconsciously.By the way, Alfred's is also the publisher of the Masterwork Classics series.
These books are a great resource of classical music literature. The series ranges from beginners to more advanced students. Great for the piano teacher or self motivated student. Each book comes with a CD of the music to speed learning. (Level 3)

Excellent collection of over 30 appropriately skill leveled musical pieces, complete with CD for very reasonable price.I will be most likely continuing the series.
