I love this book! I have been taking classes for about a year in Cabaret bellydance and was curious about Tribal style. I bought this book and I am hooked! It is full of fascinating info, including costume and basic movements. I would still recommend taking classes and maybe purchasing tapes or DVD's as I do not believe you can learn it all from a book, but this book has it all:)Thank you Kajira Djoumahna for a wonderful book. Check out Carolena Nericcio's websight for "Fat Chance Bellydance" and the authors web sight for "Blacksheep Bellydance" and belly dance superstar Rachel Brice's "The Indigo"

This book is over 10 years old, so while it's a good source for finding out about the roots of tribal belly dance, some of the suggestions for music and costuming may feel a little dated. I also wish this book relied a little less on quotes and opinions, as a lot of them are just that, one dancer's opinion that may not really reflect the reality of the dance, especially not 10-12 years down the road.Of course, it is entertaining to see dancers quoted as saying things that are nearly the opposite of what they say and do now.One thing I really appreciate is that Kajira includes a really strongly-worded chapter on how the belly dance community, ESPECIALLY the tribal community, abuses and misuses the word "g*psy." Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the author and many like-minded dancers, this problem continues to this day in all corners of the community. Now that this is available in an affordable digital edition instead of expensive second-hand hard copies, it's definitely good to pick up and have around as a reference.

I am so glad that I was able to find this book on e-book!! I had been looking for a while and it was hard to fid at an affordable price. It is packed with photos and great information!! Extremely comprehensive!! It made me fall even more in love with this dance.

I liked this book. I'm learning a lot about American tribal style belly dance. I currently am learning from Kajira Djoumahna and decided to purchase this book due to soon to be a certified Blacksheep bellydance instructor in Southern California!

I bought this book when it first came out.....if I had known then.....well I would have bought 10 of them. I wanted it on my ipad....and the kindle version is a great way of doing so at a reasonable price.Arizona......

From exploring the roots of tribal to giving credit to the upcoming pioneers, this is a fantastic tome. I have met several of the people in the book, and they are all absolutely lovely, and all had praise for their experience with the book's creation. From basic moves to types of music, makeup and anecdotes, this book truly covers tribal in a well informed, factual manner, without apparent bias. It is also full of photographs--my only wish is future editions have color photos of these gorgeous costumes. I also have to say this book is full of giving credit where credit is due, which is a great thing to see!

This book includes interviews, numerous photos and details about all aspects of costuming and techniques for Tribal Bellydance. I first heard about this book from a friend who teaches Tribal in my area, then later found out that this is a must-have book that nearly everyone who dances tribal style owns. The author has put together a really complete reference book which dancers appreciate. The author obviously put a lot of hard work into this book.

I have both a signed 2003 book and the most recent as well...The author paints a knowledgeable ,creative, positive, spiritual and empowering picture of what the dance is for all of us! It may be that we come to this dance with different reasons but the camaraderie and the community that develops from this art form is a conveyance to your own imagination and to a more peaceful world around us bringing the joy of dance to each other and everyone. around us. The best book out there yet for both beginners and the more experienced.
