Complete String Quartets (Dover Chamber Music Scores)
Ebooks To Download

This single volume contains all the string quartets of Mozart: the little-known early quartets in an Italianate manner composed between 1770 and 1773: the six quartets dedicated to Franz Josef Haydn (1782–85); the D Major Quartet (K.499) composed in 1786; and the last three quartets (1789-90) written for the King of Prussia. In addition to the 23 string quartets, the volume contains an alternate slow movement to the G Major Quartet, K. 156.The music is photographically reprinted from the Breitkopf & Härtel printed score, still considered the standard, authoritative edition for the Mozart quartets.Noteheads in this edition have been reproduced in a size large enough to be read easily from a music stand or the keyboard, and margins and spaces between staves are conveniently wide to permit written notes, harmonic analysis, fingerings, and running measure numbers. This edition is practical for study, reference, enjoyment — virtually any use.

This is a good score and of course wonderful music. The editing is good, but there are a few questionable bowings. This is definitely good for anybody needing a score for the music. It also gives one an idea of how the music fits together if one plays in a quartet. Well Done!

The reader from St Louis should be told that Mozart was still a teenager when he wrote most of his quartets. Try the Hoffmiester and the 3 Prussian Quartets. Better still try the Viola Quintets. Nothing prosaic here!

Not the most practical to play from as there are many page turns and not at the most convenient points in the music. There are no measure numbers, but if there were it would be great for seeing what your quartet-mates are playing when you are playing your part.In the very first piece, K80, there was a typo of what is supposed to be A# (accidental) that is not marked with the accidental / #. So if I hadn't had the Barenreiter edition, I would not have known for sure, although in a way it is obvious (I just don't naturally assume others are wrong and I am right.) And I have only gone through that first one to mark measure numbers and try to play from this book, so I'm not sure how many mistakes there are in the rest of the book, but that was page 1.The Barenreiters are beautiful, but expensive. This is so inexpensive (the used one I bought was anyway) but not the most practical. Maybe look for an in-between, with seperate parts for ease of use, and either measure numbers or rehearsal letters for ease of group coordination. It is very frustrating otherwise if you have to stop and fix something and everyone has to count every time.

Aside from the obvious, that this music is exceptional in all regards, this edition is a bargain for anyone who enjoys reading along while listening to the music (those of us who like to "see" what's we are hearing - very instructive) or for the player (even though I don't play a bowed string instrument, I enjoy reading/playing the parts). You can't go wrong with this well priced edition.

Clearly printed, great binding, and correct. I haven't found any misprints. Using it for an analysis class. Mozart's string quartets set a precedent in his time, and themes and ideas were pulled from them throughout time, even during the romantic era one can easily find string quartets with rhythmic motives and harmonic similarities to Mozart!

Thank heaven for Dover scores. They are life savers. It's just a shame that measure are not numbered and there are no rehearsal letters or numbers. I'm prone to miscounting sometimes which makes for interesting quartet rehearsals. Hence 4 rather than 5 stars.

The Kindle Edition is unusable due to very poor print quality. I have many Dover scores in print - and they are all terrific and useful. Stick to the print version!
