Antonin Dvorak Symphonies Nos. 8 And 9, New World, In Full Score
Ebooks To Download

Few composers have achieved the widespread and lasting popularity of Antonin Dvořák. He was a master of instrumentation and symphonic form, composing a total of nine symphonies. His most celebrated work, Symphony No. 9, "From the New World" (composed during Dvořák's three-year stay in America), echoes the folk spirit of his native Czechoslovakia as well as American influences, and is filled with the spontaneous melodic invention, rhythmic variety, and intensity of harmony that characterize his orchestral works. The popular acclaim accorded the symphony "From the New World" tends to overshadow Dvořák's other symphonies, but Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians notes the "interesting…form…folk-spirit…virile serenity" of Symphony No. 8. The delightful freshness and uninhibited emotionalism of the composition have contributed to its lasting success. The Dover edition presents both symphonic masterpieces — among the most popular works in the orchestral repertoire — reprinted from authoritative editions in one inexpensive, practical volume. This full-size, easy-to-read score has been printed with generous margins to allow insertion of notes, analyses, etc. The sturdy binding, high quality of reproduction, and affordable price make this volume ideal for musicians, music students, and music lovers in general.

These scores are great to conduct from and for score study. The notation is very clear and easy to read, and the binding has held up well. I am very pleased with this purchase and cannot think of a criticism for this edition.

Everyone goes on and on about the 9th. Yes, it's a great symphony, but a bit overplayed. The 8th, on the other hand, is a fantastic work which still sounds fresh to the listener 100 years after it was written. If you're interested in learning about the 8th symphony, seeing the scoring of that famous Largo in the 9th, or simply are curious about the way Dvorak scored for the orchestra, this edition of these two symphonies needs to be in your library. Conductors know that Dover editions are wonderful inexpensive alternatives to "Urtext" editions, and are ideal for initial study, building a library, and even use as a conducting score in many cases. They're great volumes, they're published well, they look and feel great. These two symphonies should be represented in any classical music lover's recording collection, and the scores make excellent listening companions. If you can read the music, and especially if you might ever have to conduct these works, this edition is a must-buy.

Good and inexpensive version of two major works by Dvorak. Sits flat on my desk. The usual good quality found in Dover re-prints (so, no urtext stuff here... just a reprint of old editions).

This is great score book that is strong & nice. They will last for a long time. They will not tear easy also. Also they are easy to read. These books are well made.

I wish it was spiral bound so that it would lay flat, however it is otherwise and excellent purchase.

th score dose not have rehearsal number. It will be ok to use for reference, but is not a good score to use for rehersal.
