The study of string instruments should include ensemble playing at the earliest possible stage. There is much to be gained from the playing of duets. Each player learns how to listen to the other, and in a short time develops an awareness of balance, musical phrasing, intonation, and tone quality. This type of training is excellent preparation for participation in large groups. These four volumes of duets for two violins will help fill the need for early ensemble experience in the public schools. They should be used in string classes as a supplement to any of the standard string methods. They will also encourage music making outside of the school, with parents or with other students. this is a great book to help with counting and playing with another person.My 2 sons use it one plays the cello the other plays the violiln ( he can read both bass and treble clef) and they have fun playing especially when they play through once and then switch parts it is like a game to them .
I'm a Suzuki Violin teacher and this group of books, Levels 1 - 4 are and excellent teaching tool. I teach all ages and learning duets are completely different from learning solo tunes. I have each student learn both parts and we play the duets together and we are constantly switching parts at repeats or the end of each line. This creates a flexible and quick sight reader because they have to be observant in so many directions. It's also great fun and we end up laughing our way thru the workout. The only complaint I have with this series is there needs to be at least 3 more level books.... up to level 7. Please MAKE MORE!!
Playing Violin duets with another is great fun and this book does a good job at picking easy to hard songs to play together. I highly recommended it for newer Violinists.
This is a review for "Beautiful Music for two string instruments," cello Vol II.This book contains lots of useful duets for advanced beginners like myself. The music is cleanly printed on quality paper. Volume II is limited to 1st and 2nd playing positions.My cello teacher and I enjoy playing the duets from this book. Especially Bach's "Anna Magdalena's Minuet" and Beethoven's "Sonatina in G"This book contains several songs that are both fun to play as well as helpful in developing cello playing skills.
I bought both the cello and violin versions of this book to use violin/cello duets. The songs are good for intermediate level students.
