Dennis Jaffe is a master consultant, collaborator, educator, writer and thought leader. STEWARDSHIP IN YOUR FAMILY ENTERPRISE is a comprehensive handbook for families in business, and families of wealth (as well as the advisors who serve them). I have heard it said many times, "You've seen one family enterprise...you've seen 'ONE' family enterprise." Every family is uniquely different. The chapters in this book are filled with Dr. Jaffe's decades of experience in serving families in every imaginable situation. Governance and decision making, family communication, conflict resolution, succession, and family leadership are addressed in an accessible and useful manner.
Dennis Jaffe has great and useful stories to tell about how families go from bumbling to better; from squandering assets to stewarding them. His years of experience and his generous spirit both show up between the covers of this book. For families striving for excellence, this is a great guidebook.Raising Financially Fit Kids
This book is focused on a very under-served market - family enterprises and offices. Wealthy families have more to lose and most diverse concerns and responsibilities yet they are relatively ignored when it comes to training materials, quality books, and accessible resources to help improve their operations and businesses. This book does a good job of addressing this problem by touching on governance, common challenges, board development, burdens of wealth, and wealth transfer.
If you are looking for one place to start in understanding the family side of family enterprise, this is it. Dennis Jaffe's book is a wonderful compilation of lessons learned over a career of consulting to family businesses and families of wealth. Having it all in one place allows the reader to really see the "roadmap" families need for achieving success over generations. It should be required reading for all family enterprise leaders, their successors, and even the consultants who work with them.
