This fake book has all of your favorite hymns in the key of "C", with easy-to-read large music notation, simplified chords and includes all of the verses for sing along. It is perfect for beginners and has a binding that will lay flat on the music stand. All the well-known verses (including multiple) are included under the notes. Finally, unlike other fakebooks that try to crowd several songs together in one page, or split them between pages, this book fits one song per page with large readable type.
I knew there had to be an easier way to play piano. I'll never be a concert pianist, but I am able to enjoy playing for my own enjoyment. With the vocal training I have had, and an explanation of chords, I am able to play the old hymns I grew up with. This is easy and fun.
Your mother will love you if you play this quietly in the background. If you know how to read the melody and can learn to play chord, this one is for you. It is so easy if you do not know (like me) how to read all those notes on the left hand.
Oh my word, this book is great! Where was it when I was learning to play growing up? Hymns list several verses with an easy melody on the treble clef with chording above. Notes and words are enlarged...my kids had a hard time using a regular book after how large and clear this one is. I pencil in fingering in for those who need it. Chord notes are listed in the back. I've showed this to three other piano teachers/mothers of students, and two are buying it. Good variety of songs with just I, IV & V chords as well as other songs with additional chords to fill out. On my small piano, it lays open nicely without needing props. If you have a digital piano with a wimpy book holder, it may not stay as it is a tall substantial book. I enjoy playing out of it myself as do my elementary boys.
I just recieved this book yesterday and it seems like it is just what I have been looking for. If a person is limited in what they can play but wants to strum up some good old fashion Hymns, this is the book to have.
It was everything that I had hoped for! My wife is the recently (three years) self taught keyboard genius, I mean it!Plays well and self taught music notation reader! Rather a great accomplishment for an older woman! But, goes to show that an unfulfilled childhood ambition and a burning desire can indeed work wonders! The book of course was for her and greatly enjoyed along with the other (much used) pile of Hal Leonard Fake books! This one works also. The usual good delivery service and NO complaints! A great addition to one's, or there's collection!
This book is absolutely fantastic for those who are new to keyboards and want to get started playing simple accompaniment right away. Most digital keyboards have a "transpose" feature that will let you keep playing in "C" while hearing the song in any key more suitable for the singers. More experienced players will also find this to be a good starting point for songs they don't have other arrangements for. For keyboard solos, the lead line is there in larger than normal print for easy reading on the fly. Every aspiring church keyboardist should own this and the other books in this series!!
YES! YES! YES!! I love this hymn book! I bought this for some beginner piano students but I found myself really enjoying using it myself. It is one hand, C-major playing. Some songs require a lot of moving, others don't move at all. Also, for more advanced students there are chord indications that allow them to arrange the song as they please. This is a great way to introduce theory.
