This fakebook has a whole lot of of the old favorites. Some of the songs are listed in the product descripion. To start my review, here is a tiny sample listing of a few more: Basin Street Blues, Blue Skies, Bugle Call Rag, Canal Street Blues, Darktown Strutters Ball, High society, Hindustan, Jubilee, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Memphis Blues, My Blue Heaven, Pretty Baby, Red Sails in the Sunset, Saint James Infirmary, Tishomingo Blues. And it leaves out some of the old favorites. Some notable absences are, in quasi-alphabetical order are: Burgundy Street Blues, Dixie, Hello Dolly, Goodnight Irene, Mood Indigo, Sister Kate, Tuxedo Junction. Arranger Robert Rawlings points out that reasons for omissions include "access, copyright permission, and space issues".Still on the whole it is a fair sampling of Dixieland music. The reader has to judge for themselves if a particular song is too Ragtime, Swing, 40s Cuban or other style to be pure Dixieland, but where in America is there any pure music genre?Technical issues: The printing is clear, font size is good, there are chord notations, all the stuff that make a good fakebook. Clarinetists spend a lot of time playing countermelodies, led by either the cornet or piano, so the chord notations are really important. The arranger points out that a lot of these songs have multiple versions so that the tune in the book may or may not be exactly the same as the reader used to play or some great band recorded. This is not the end of the world. Dixieland players often change tunes or insert a riff or a few lines from one song into another.
