I don't recommend this to anyone. Dennis Koster's "Keys to Flamenco", Juan Serrano's basic book, Juan Martin's method, Anita Sheer's, Gerhard Graf-Martinez... all these other authors wrote books that have better method content. None are perfect and you can benefit from exposure to many ideas. The author of this Hal Leanord Flamenco book is clearly talented. The CD recordings are superb. But the method just doesn't teach all that well.The jam stuff is somewhat unique. The overall exposure to the style is great. One thing really impressed me about this book would be a section on practicing.....I felt all of the other subject matter in the book is easy to learn,understand and play for a beginner.The book gives basic requirments for playing like length of nail, technics, and some basic styles.Its very brief and short but doesn't give enough more information like Juan Martin,Dennis Kostner or Graf-Martinez.Its almost in the same league as Serranos' basic flamenco book. I would see this book to be a supplement for Juan Serrano's basic flamenco and luigi's "how to teach yourself flamenco."
It is what I expect, a flamenco guitar course with clear and easy to follow instructions and the cd is great too,so you can hear the way the lessons should be played.It opens the door to a new and wonderful world of sound.
I feel that this is a great introduction to the music. I have been playing for three years and enjoy all kinds of music. This book is a lot of fun to play and its not really difficult. The music is really expressive and its worth learning. Have fun.
