In Chihuly Seaforms, Artforum art critic Joan Seeman Robinson discusses Dale Chihuly's most exquisite and ethereal series, invoking the spontaneous automatic drawings of the Surrealists, the water lilies of Claude Monet, the action painting of Jackson Pollock, and, most cogently, Henri Matisse's Swimming Pool. Oceanographer and explorer Sylvia Earle, former Chief Scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, finds in Chihuly's evocative Seaforms not only "reflections of skill, passion, teamwork and sheer genius" but also "tributes" to the sea. Together these writers help to illuminate what many consider Chihuly's quintessential series, which was begun in 1980. The saturated color of the 40 full-color pages, including many double-page spreads, conveys the sensuousness of Chihuly's work.Hardcover 7 1/4" x 9 1/4"112 pages, 44 color reproductions
I have admired Chihuly's work for many years and finally got to see his work up close and personal. Nothing beats that experience, but having this book to glance through -- with a great cup of tea or glass of wine -- is a very special treat.
This is quite simply a gorgeous book - a veritable feast for the eyes! This series is one of my favorites of renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. He takes his inspiration from nature and it shows in the organic forms he creates. I also love Chihuly's garden installations and have been fortunate enough to see them in person in Miami. The water installations I saw there and my visits to the Chihuly Museum come pleasantly back to mind when I visit this book and the accompanying DVD.
We purchased this book as a gift for our son, who loves glass art. It is a treat for the eyes and soul--made a wonderful gift, and he will enjoy displaying it on his coffee table or browsing through when he needs a "lift." Beautifully produced photography.
I bought this used, and it was a great find. Lovely little book filled with breathtaking images of some of Chihuly's most spectacular designs. Grab it if you're a true fan and collector.
I purchased this book for a relative who was thrilled. My kids also loved looking at the gorgeous pictures. There were short descriptions of each item; this book is more for the pictures than for information about glass making. It is perfect to pick up and read a few pages at a time before bed or just to flip through.
Though the format of the book is small, the color quality is high. The DVD is very enjoyable. Lovers of art glass will love this, I believe.
Chihuly Seaforms is a wonder book. The pictures are so beautiful. I make glass jewelry, so this book is eye candy to me.
