For years I knew that Song of Songs was about Christ and His bride but I always had a difficult time understanding it. Some of the symbolism kind of went over my head. I had been taught that it was more of a book on marriage and being single I tended to skip over it. I would read a few verses here and there to remind me that God loves me. Several months ago I bought the gospel of Luke in the passion translation and it was incredible. I don't know if its just the season I am in but I felt the need to order Song of Songs. I felt like the Lord was trying to whisper something to me. When I got it last week I started reading it and I was blown away by the fact that it was all so clear to me. The love God has for his children His bride just swept me away. The footnotes have helped me greatly in understanding the symbolism of all the spices. "I want to smell like cinnamon, the odor of holiness" I have been reading the book out loud every night for the last week. I cry every time I read it, not just tears but a deep cry from my heart that overwhelms me. . It's not that I did not love God before but I have now been awakened to the depth of His love for me and for His bride. Just one glance from me or the sound of my voice in prayer and He is intoxicated with love for me. His whispers of love is the most beautiful sound. Song of Songs is the song above all songs. I highly recommend this to everyone.
I could only read the first 4 chapters and then I broke into tears because God's love overwhelmed me.This book has brought me closer to God, I never really liked the Song of songs in the past, probably because I was carnal minded.I thought Song Of Songs was kind of boring until the day I read this book out loud... WOW!!!God's presence flooded my entire being The first day I The Passion Translation out loud, and I'm still a Passionate lover of God today...Praise Jesus!! I asked myself once," Is it possible to love God with passionate love like or better than an earthly lover?" I read The Song of Solomon and various other books on the subject with no satisfaction.Then I realized that I needed to go to the source.I asked the Lord the same question.He was glad that I asked Him that question. His answer was to arise and spend time with Him. I began getting up in the early hours sometimes sitting quietly,sometimes thanking Him, singing to Him, telling Him how much I love Him and how much He means to me. Recently, I came across the book, Song of Songs:Divine Romance ,The Passion Translation by Dr.Brian Simmons.. It was just the book that I'd been searching for.The words are so passionate and so alive! I read a portion of it everyday. I get revelation from it everytime I read it. The Lord personally speaks to me. I have such a desperate desire to know the Lord in a more intimate way. I can truly say that our Divine Romance has begun.
This is the most intimate book in the Bible, depicting the relationship between Christ and the Church. In this version this relationship really stands out. I have read it many times. It is short, only eight chapters, so a person can read the whole book in two or three hours, but then there are some really good footnotes for when you go back and read it again. I have the Kindle version and the paperback, and have ordered multiple copies of the paperback to share with friends.
The most transcendent and poignant book I have ever read. Song of Songs- Divine Romance, by The Passion Translation is a book that takes you into the very heart of God. You will not be the same after reading this version. I have encountered the unconditional and never ending love of God through reading this version of Song and Songs and it's my absolute favorite book in the entire Bible. I bought quite and few copies and gifted them out to friends. Phenomenal!
I loved this translation... made this allegory-love poem so personal to me. Love language straight from Jesus to my heart, words that broke through all my crustiness and doubt that God could ever love someone like me. The author went back to the original Hebrew and brought in nuances and inferences suggested by the language. The translation also comes with multiple footnotes that explain the author's thinking. Highly recommend this book for anyone in need of the encouragement that you are greatly loved by an amazing God.
This must be my favorite translation of the Bible so easy to read with accurate translation from the Hebrew and Aramaic. The footnotes are excellent and it brings to light the scriptures. Can't wait to have the full Bible by Brian Simmons. Excellent work!
