I have wanted a copy of this for a long time, but at $40 felt it was a bit too much for me. Besides, there were only a few songs that I needed. Of all the fake books I've seen, this one reproduces the rhythmically complex music most accurately, and is set up as piano score with instrumental cues.
As a jazz pianist and vocalist, I must have in my collection over 50 fake books. The Latin Real Book is a good collection but not great. It feels unfocused.. meaning sort of a random collection of mostly salsa, with a little Brazilian thrown in.I found the collection rather obscure... as a soloist I would have rather seen more Latin standards and less salsa ensemble charts. Standard songs like Besame Mucho, Adios, Sway, You Belong To My Heart, Perfidia, Frenesi.... are not included!!! Neither are the choicest Brazilian bossa nova of Jobim, Sergio Mendes etc. Look warm collection at best.You might give the book a higher star rating if you are a salsa player. Tiene muchísimas canciones latinas, a mí me interesaba para tocarlas al piano. Muchas de ellas sólo tienen la melodía y los acordes pero no la parte de la mano izquierda del piano.
Well worth the money. Good quality paper though the plastic spiral is a bit soft the pages all stay together. Good quality print and the content is as advertised.
The authentic Latin and Latin Jazz standards. Very handy bass and rhythm patterns included. A must for any serious performing Latin jazz ensemble.
Jazz/Swing Real Books (e.g., Hal Leonard books) present music that competent players can do with no rehearsal. Not so with the Latin Real Book.
Good tunes, easy to read charts, spiral bound to lay flat. What more do you need?
Best Latin fake book out so far. Easy to read with great variety if tunes. I can hardly wait for Volume 2(hint hint).
