I memorized the entire periodic table after reading it. My 6th grade students memorized it automatically (till 36) after I told them the story (till 36).
Applies well-known memory techniques in a focused manner. First the process of memorization is covered, with an overview of methods that help. Then we're led on a trip through the table, covering specific examples of how to memorize the elements in order. There are more tips at the end suggesting how to do more, like remembering the mass or group of the elements. The presentation is quite basic, but the methods are well applied.
Though I dropped the class before finishing, I would have completely failed the first quiz if it weren't for this wonderful book. The ridiculous amount of information a person is supposed to remember for an into chem class is just plain stupid. If that person wants to get through such a class, then this is the book for them. This memorization tactic is brilliant, and once read you will never forget it.
This book is pretty good for trying to teach students how to memorize anything really. I teach High Functioning Autistic kid and this memorization techniques works. I purchased this specifically to teach The Periodic Table because its a lot of information to learn in just a few weeks.
Brilliant -- we are going to use this for our Classical Conversations students. Can't believe how easy it is to memorize this way!
Absolutely love this book. It's a fun way to memorize the elements in order. My 10 year old borrowed it and enjoyed it too. Highly recommend this book. I can't seem to hold on to it when sharing with young curious minds. I will be ordering this book again!
It's the silliest story, which is pretty fun, and it works. I bought the Kindle edition, and studied the first 10 for about 5 min. You can't get the visuals out of your head thereafter. And I can remember the order. This is exactly what the book advertisement said- memorize the periodic table. Now, if you want to be able to do it out of order, or recall other details, you need to do other things. But this is a great beginning. I highly recommend it for middle school and high school chemistry teachers. It's FUN!
